Bath City 0 Truro City 3

Two late first-half goals from Truro left Bath City with a deficit they never looked likely to come back from.
The Cornish side went ahead when Dan Green put the finishing touch on a free-kick that City had failed to adequately deal with.
The second arrived within two minutes as neither Dan Ball nor Steve Phillips took control of a seemingly innocuous long pass to hand Isaac Vassell a tap-in.

And Ryan Brett notched the third less than a minute into the second half to virtually kill off any hopes of a revival, with Truro even wasting a penalty.
With neither side forcing play in wide areas, the first ten minutes were relatively devoid of goalmouth action, barring a close-range Truro header that Phillips held.
Sekani Simpson's strength allowed him to fight through a challenge and feed Kaid Mohamed, who had wandered narrowly offside, before Truro came back with a shot of their own from Cody Cooke that Phillips dropped sharply to save.
City came agonisingly close to going in front when Frankie Artus floated in a free-kick from the left that Jack Batten headed off the foot of an upright.
Ben Adelsbury charged in for the follow-up, but was kept out by visiting keeper Martin Rice at point-blank range.
Nick McCootie also came close as he stretched for a shot that Rice kept out. Had his touch been better from the initial long ball, he could have been clear in behind.
Truro passed up an excellent chance when Brett headed over a cross from Vassell, who had teased away from Andy Gallinagh, while Cooke would also drill a shot into the side netting from a back-post cross.
The visitors continued to edge possession for much of the half, but failed to create any threatening efforts on the City goal.
However, they would take the lead on 38 minutes. Ball clattered into the back of Cooke, with Brett's subsequent free-kick diverted back towards the right-hand post for Green to turn home.
City had not been outplayed by that point, yet found themselves two-goals behind on the back of a diabolical defensive mix-up.
Ball looked to shepherd a long pass back to Phillips, who came charging out from his line. The keeper slid in, but missed the ball, allowing Vassell to walk it into an unguarded net.
Within a minute of the second half kicking off, City's deficit became three as Truro worked the ball for Brett to drill home.
McCootie squirmed through and had a shot blocked by Rice from a tight angle, with the Truro stopper frustrating him again minutes later as he tipped a low shot past the post.
Those chances aside, the third goal appeared to completely deflate an already withering Romans display.
The visitors did press aggressively, although too many passes still went astray.
Chas Hemmings and Gallinagh were also robbed of the ball to hand Truro a couple of half-chances that went begging.
Even the introduction of former Truro favourite Andy Watkins – one of City's form players until he was left out of the Ebbsfleet win with illness – could not enliven the hosts.
Truro were awarded a penalty with 15 minutes left to run when Simpson barged over substitute Les Afful, only for Shane White to blaze his spot kick into the depths of the Bristol End.
There were a handful of dead-ball opportunities for the Romans, but the best they could muster was a soft overhead kick from Watkins that was caught by Rice and a direct effort from Adelsbury that was pushed wide.

TISA Statement on Silver Bow

TISA calls upon TCFC Chairman, Peter Masters to keep his word reportedly given at a meeting of Truro City Council on May 18th 2014 with regard to the relocation site for TCFC that The football ground itself would be put into a proper trust so it would never be allowed to be sold off.”  and that he consults with ALL TCFC fans to agree how that shall be achieved.

Truro City 1 Eastbourne Borough 0

Truro City will go into the Christmas programme a very impressive eighth in the National League South table, after Shane White's penalty, just before half time, earned them victory against the Sussex visitors who ended the game with nine men.
Spot-kick specialist White converted the all-important penalty seven minutes before the break, after Isaac Vassell was brought down by Eastbourne keeper Lewis Carey as he tried to go past him after cutting in from the right.
The visitors' No1 saw red and stand-in keeper Bouwe Bosma had no chance as White found the net to give City a priceless lead in the difficult conditions.
And it was enough to see they ended their 2015 league programme, unbeaten at home since losing to Oxford City 6-0 at the end of August - a remarkable achievement for Steve Tully's side after winning promotion.
White's penalty in the week had given City a 1-0 FA Trophy win at Cirencester Town and of course his spot-kick won the promotion play-off final at the end of last season .
The home side though were unable to kill the game off in the second period, even after Craig Stone was also sent off in the final ten minutes for picking up a second yellow card.
And the home fans had to endure a few anxious moments, with a Jack Evans free-kick rattling the bar, as the visitors pressed for an equaliser, before they could celebrate the win.
For the game, Tully made two changes with Vassell and Cody Cooke recalled and Jake Ash and Craig Duff dropping to the bench.
With the strong wind and heavy pitch making good football difficult, there was little between the sides in the opening stages. For City, Jamie Richards headed over Ryan Brett's free kick and Cooke also found the net, but it was ruled out for offside, while at the other end Evans forced a good save out of Martin Rice with a free-kick and Darren Lok shot just wide.
Vassell was the greatest threat for City with his searing pace and it was that pace that helped set up what proved to be the game's only goal, as he burst clear down the right and was then fouled by keeper Carey ,who received his marching orders from referee Steven Plane in the turning point of the game.
White calmly dispatched the spot kick, leaving Truro, perhaps a trifle fortunately, ahead at the break in what had been until then had been an even game.
At the start of the second half, Matt Wright was denied by the legs of stand-in keeper Bosma who was not really tested a much as he should have been.
Eastbourne were far from finished and after Evans's free kick had shaken the bar they continued to cause problems for the home defence.
City needed a second, but it just would not come.
Even when Stone saw red for pulling back substitute Les Afful, after earlier being booked for dissent, City still could not relax, with substitute Cameron Gill, on his City debut after signing on loan from Exeter City, shooting over and Vassell hitting the post in a terrific goalmouth scramble, both unable to put the result beyond doubt.
In the end though City managed to see the game out and will now look forward to the double header against Bath City in confident mood.

Cirencester 0 Truro City 1 (FA Trophy)

Cirencester Town suffered a heart-breaking exit from the FA Trophy as Truro City scored a controversial late penalty.
An evenly-contested first round replay appeared to be heading to extra-time until goalkeeper Glyn Garner brought down Isaac Vassell – the cousin of former England and Aston Villa striker Darius Vassell - and referee Anthony Coggins pointed to the spot despite Cirencester protests that the foul took place outside the box.
Shane White scored from the spot to deny the Centurions a potential plum second round tie at home to Macclesfield Town, whose replay against Ashton United was postponed.

Cirencester manager Brian Hughes named an unchanged team to the side that drew 2-2 in Truro, deciding once again not to risk Charlie Griffin's hamstring with Jamie Reid, the late hero from that game, also on the bench.
The wind can play a big part at the Corinium Stadium and within the first minute Truro goalkeeper Martin Rice had to be alert to tip Zack Kotwica's corner over the bar as it swung in late.
Cirencester used the elements to their advantage when a goal kick from Garner kept on travelling over the top of the Truro defence and the pacey Ross Langworthy latched onto it, but Rice came out to save at his feet.
Truro began to settle, though and created three chances in quick succession – A deflected Dan Green effort went over the bar, Craig Duff glanced wide from a corner and the best chance fell to Matt Wright, who had just Garner to beat after being sent through on goal by Duff but the ball stuck on the soggy surface before he curled his shot wide.
Cirencester then produced a lovely move to conjure up another good chance for Langworthy, with Kotwica getting on the end of a sumptuous Brad Hooper pass and sending in an inviting low cross, only for the striker to be thwarted by Rice again.
That was all in a frantic first 13 minutes but it went quiet after that as both sides struggled to create chances and went into the break all square.
The battle for supremacy continued early in the second half, Ellis Dunton dragging an effort wide for Cirencester and Ryan Brett's fierce striker coming off a defender as it went over at the other end.
Neither team looked like scoring until Truro were handed a penalty in the 86th minute. Connor Riley-Rowe sent a ball down the left channel and Vassell used his pace to get there ahead of Garner, who brought the substitute down.
The goalkeeper received a booking and White then stepped up to send him the wrong way.
Keen to make amends for his error in judgement, Garner came up for a Cirencester corner in stoppage time and got his head to it but the ball went over the bar.

Truro City 2 Cirencester Town 2 (FA Trophy)

Jamie Reid emerged from "the most difficult year of his career" to grab an injury time equaliser as Cirencester came from 2-0 down to earn an FA Trophy replay.
Supersub Reid, only just back from a bad knee injury, had only been on the field for seven minutes when he played a diagonal cross to the far post - and saw it carry on the wind and dip over Truro goalkeeper Martin Rice's head into the net.
It sparked wild celebrations among the players and coaching staff, but that bit of good fortune was no more than Brian Hughes' side deserved as they were the better side in the second half.

Reid only came back into the Cirencester squad for last Tuesday's win over Kettering and had played a few games for Hardwicke in the County League after recovering from his injury.
"I love this club and they have stuck by me during the injury," he said. "I am grateful to the manager Brian Hughes and the chairman Steve Abbley for keeping me involved with the club.
"We showed great spirit and deserved the draw and I thought we more than matched them and we have definitely got a chance in the replay."
Cirencester had gone into the game without leading scorer Charlie Griffin, who was not fit enough to start after going off early in the midweek Kettering victory.
That meant a reshuffle, with Ross Langworthy taking a central striker's role, flanked by Zack Kotwica and Ollie Knight.
Hughes' men gave as good as they got against the Vanarama National League South side for long periods, but were grateful to goalkeeper Glyn Garner for a couple of smart stops to thwart pacy striker Isaac Vassell.
They did have the ball in the net when Kotwica slipped Matt Liddiard in to fire past Rice, but he was denied by an offside flag - and Truro went ahead soon after, in the 41st minute.
Vassell broke into the box and although he seemed to be fouled by Ellis Dunton he managed to nudge the ball past Garner.
That lead was doubled in first-half stoppage time when Arran Pugh headed home Richard Brett's corner almost unchallenged at the far post, and it seemed a long way back for Cirencester.
But they took the game to Truro after the break, and Dunton went close with a diving header before he was fouled in the box by substitute Jake Ash after 65 minutes.
Kotwica stepped up to send Rice the wrong way from the spot for his eighth goal of the season to give Cirencester a foothold back in the game.
Truro were playing on the counter attack as Cirencester pressed for an equaliser.
Ex-Forest Green man Les Afful had a shot deflected wide and Brett's free-kick hit the post, while Cirencester were causing a few problems from set-pieces, but it seemed Truro would edge through until Reid earned that merited second bite at the cherry back at the Corinium tomorrow night.

Maidstone UTD 2 Truro City 1

Despite the blustery conditions, the game got off to a lively start. With nine minutes gone, Alex Brown appeared to push Les Afful over in the box but the Truro players didn’t appeal and no penalty was forthcoming either.
Not long after this, Lee Worgan made his first save of the afternoon although it was a comfortable one as he jumped to catch a rising volley from Cody Cooke who had struck the ball from about 20 yards from goal. But the visitors were to go closer still just past the half way mark. Matthew Wright managed to get his head to the ball as he bumped into Lee Worgan only for Alex Brown to make a goal line clearance.
Worgan received lengthy treatment after this incident but fortunately for the Stones he was able to carry on and he came to Maidstone’s rescue shortly afterwards. Ryan Brett slipped the ball into Afful who was one on one with the Stones’ keeper and Worgan made a fine stop with his feet.
Late on in the half, Brown’s clearance only went as far as Ollie Knowles. Knowles brought the ball down and moved forward before hitting a long range effort which brushed off the top of the cross bar. Then seconds later, Matt Bodkin got caught on the ball in midfield and Brett let fly with a shot which just went high and wide of the right hand side of the goal.
Two minutes before the break, it was the home side’s turn to go to close. Coyle lofted the ball down the line which May knocked back to Alex Flisher and his cross was met by Frannie Collin who saw his header fly just wide of the left hand post.
Shortly after the interval, the ball was worked across the edge of the area to Cooke. Cooke’s low shot looped up off Coyle and Worgan had to be alert to push the ball wide. Then from the resultant corner, Knowles picked out Matthew Wright at the back post who was stretching to reach the ball and he couldn’t keep his shot on target.
But as the second half got going, Maidstone started to create opportunities of their own. With 53 minutes gone, Collin did well to win the ball and find Alex Flisher down the left and Flisher’s dangerous cross was cleared by Jamie Richards for a corner.
Not long after this a super ball down the right from Brown came to Collin. The Maidstone striker pulled the ball back into the box where it was met by the arriving Matt Bodkin and from a good position, he fired wide of the far post.
The Stones were then nearly made to pay for this miss on the hour mark. Jack Paxman lost the ball to Knowles in midfield and Knowles quickly played it into substitute Isaac Vassell whose low effort would have gone in had it not been for an excellent stop from Worgan.
May hit a curling effort following a run forwards but the ball was at a nice height for Martin Rice to be able to push it behind. Then at the other end, Vassell got in behind Coyle and once again Worgan was able to make an important stop with his feet.
May and Vassell both had opportunities for their sides again only time May’s weak header was saved by Rice and Vassell stabbed the ball wide when well placed inside the box. But with 74 minutes gone, the deadlock was finally broken. Flisher’s corner from the right was flicked back across goal from Knowles and Coyle neatly side footed in from close range.
And just four minutes later, Maidstone pulled further ahead. Joe Healy battled hard in midfield to win the ball and he released May who ran into the box and lifted the ball over the advancing Rice.
But Truro set up a tense finish when Manny Parry brought down Cooke inside the area. The referee, Mr Brook, had no doubts it was a penalty and Shane White smashed the resultant spot kick into the net. However, despite some late pressure, the Stones saw out the remaining moments well and held to record their 12th win of the season.

Kingstonian 0 Truro City 3 (FA Trophy)

On a couple of occasions in the past five years or so, the Conference South has seemed within touching distance of K’s reach. At an excitable Kingsmeadow on Saturday, it has never felt so far away. Truro, 12 games unbeaten in the southern section of the sixth tier of English football, proved not only a division away but a class apart from Tommy Williams’s men.

An old-fashioned romp against Leatherhead and a couple of lusty bites of Dorchester’s cherry had taken Kingstonian to the third qualifying round of this year’s Football Association Challenge Trophy, a stage last reached in peak Dowson-era K’s.
On that occasion, Brentwood were overcome at the second time of asking. The much-mooted opportunity to follow K’s to deepest, darkest Cornwall for a similar midweek replay never looked likely from the moment Dan Green lashed in from close range with nine minutes played.
The defending for that goal was barely Ryman worthy, let alone good enough against Vanarama opposition, and things didn’t get much better midway through the half when the visitors doubled their tally. Cody Cooke was allowed far too much time and space to take a potshot from distance, and though Rob Tolfrey parried, the loose ball dropped to the unmarked Matt Wright who finished with ease.
On a day when K’s players needed to be at their best to give us any chance of getting a result it was a pity many fell short of what they are capable of. Little went right in attack. Hard-won set-pieces were underhit. Tricks and skills didn’t come off. And when Reece Beccles raced clear with the interval in sight, Martin ‘flag’s up’ Rice stood tall and saved.
K’s huffed and puffed in the second half but those efforts which hit the target were tame. The rest went high or wide. At the other end, Truro whacked the final nail into our red-and-white coffin seven minutes from time. A passing move, a neat through ball, a clinical finish. Truro, functional fit diligent disciplined Truro, were too good. No shame in that for K’s, however, and with our interest in the two main cups now over the focus turns to the Ryman play-off push, and of course a continued run in the Turvey.

Kingstonian: Rob Tolfrey, Aaron Goode, George Wells, Lee O'Leary, Bruce Hogg, Alan Inns, Dan Bennett, Harold Odametey, Reece Beckles, Pelayo Pico Gomez, Malachi Hudson.

Hayes & Yeading 2 Truro City 2

Manager Garry Haylock was forced into changes from last weeks’ starting line-up as illness and injury deprived him of the services of Adam Bygrave, Jim Fenlon and Cole Brown, this meant he gave debuts to new arrivals Omari Alexander-Salmon and loanee Matt Jay, plus a first start for youth team player Colin Mugoya.
Chances early on in the game saw Dan Lincoln comfortably collect a shot on the turn from Craig Duff while at the other end Matt Jay broke clear of the defence but his effort was blocked by Martin Rice in the Truro goal and when the ball was returned into the box it was Jay again who took possession, this time his shot being deflected wide.

A deflection at the other end saw Cody Cooke’s effort go wide of the post before Lincoln again denied Duff, this time the United stopper palming away the strikers header as he ran on to a Cooke centre.

Midway through the half debutant Omari Alexander-Salmon, in his first game at senior level, took possession from Josh Scott’s pass and rifled a 20 yard shot that went inches wide of the target after a defender got a slight touch as the ball arrowed towards goal. He did however only have to wait three minutes before hitting a debut goal as he rose in the centre of the six yard box to powerfully head a Benyon cross past Rice (photo right).

Just over ten minutes later it was debutant goal number two, this time for Exeter City’s Matt Jay who having collected the ball on the left corner of the City box, turned his marker and drilled the ball low across Rice into the far corner (below left).

Josh Scott then headed a Mason Spence centre wide before two fine Lincoln stops denied Truro a first half
reply. A Cooke cross from the left to the far post was volleyed coolly back into the centre by Matt Wright with the arriving Duff seeing his header blocked away at point blank range by the United ‘keeper. Within a minute the ball was back in the danger zone as Cooke drilled the ball across the six yard box with Devante McKain clearing sharply from virtually on his own goal-line.
United were to be put under a lot of pressure in the second half and appeared to tire towards the end of the game as City hit back to take their unbeaten record to 11 with a last gasp equaliser.

The half actually started quite slowly, Scott having the first goalbound effort that Rice swept up easily on 54 minutes. As we crossed the hour mark the United defence were put under a lot of pressure but Lincoln was again in fine form. A cross from the right was allowed to bounce in the area, Wright trying an acrobatic effort that looked destined to hit the net but for a superb push out by Lincoln. Minutes later he was again needed as Cooke broke into the box only to be denied by Lincoln who pushed the ball away for a corner. The flag kick dropped inside the six yard box but was hacked away off the line by the well positioned Mason Spence.

Seventeen minutes remained on referee Serrano’s watch when the visitors finally broke United’s resistance as substitute Les Afful collected the ball on the right corner of the box and fired low past Lincoln in a goal similar to United’s from Matt Jay.

Both custodian’s were required to tip efforts over as first Rice did well to deny Elliot Benyon and then minutes later Lincoln needed his finger tips to deny Ollie Knowles whose free-kick deflected off the wall and was heading into the United net.

United finally succumbed to the City attack again with just a minute of normal time remaining, a free-kick from substitute Danny Barrow being inadvertently helped on by Spence before being met powerfully by the head of on-coming Truro skipper Ryan Ash who gave Lincoln no chance as his header found the top corner.

United did have a late chance in stoppage time to snatch the winner but Devante McKain’s header from Spence’s corner struck a defender on the line before being cleared and it was a share of the spoils but a much improved display, against last week, from Garry Haylock’s side.

Truro City 2 Basingstoke 0

CITY moved into the play-off places in National League South as they stretched their unbeaten league run to ten games with victory over bottom club Basingstoke.
Goals from Conor Riley-Lowe in the first half and a late Cody Cooke header were enough to give City the points against the Hampshire side whose performance belied their struggles in the league this season.

It is the Cornish club's highest ever league position and a remarkable rise up the table since a difficult start to the season after winning promotion.

On a windy night at Treyew Road the game was never going to be a classic.
With the wind at their backs in the first half, City had most of the play but did not really create enough openings.
However, they did take the lead after 20 minutes when Riley-Lowe finished superbly with a left footed strike into the far corner after some good approach play.
But until Ryan Brett forced Basingstoke keeper Aaron Howe into fine stop right on half time and then headed just wide from the subsequent corner, the home side did not really threaten.
Promoted by Sainsbury's
After the interval Basingstoke looked increasingly dangerous. forcing City back, though without seriously testing Martin Rice in the home goal, as the home defence stayed resolute.
And with two minutes left, substitute Isaac Vassell provided the cross from the right for Cooke to head home from close range to make sure of the points, just after man of the match Ollie Knowles had struck the woodwork with a long range free kick.

Statement on Silver Bow

Further to our statement of November 13 welcoming the news that Silver Bow has been given the go ahead, Truro Independent Supporters Association (TISA) reiterates its wish to see the playing surface of Silver Bow put into the ownership of a Supporters Trust.
The current owners of TCFC know only too well the trauma that occurs when a football club has its ground sold from underneath them, having successfully cleared up the mess left by the previous regime and in so doing saving TCFC from certain collapse.
TISA understands that Truro City 2012 is a business and recognises the right of its owners to protect its investments and generate profit, however, football club owners come and go and can only by temporary custodians of the football club for its fans who remain the only constant.  TISA does not believe that any businessman should enter into football club ownership purely to make financial gain and indeed very few do.
The ongoing financial injection of Helical Retail Ltd as future developers of Treyew Road  including a full or part repayment of the Directors loans made to the club by its current owners have paved the way for those owners to make a significant profit when they implement their "Exit Strategy", but TISA calls on them to curtail their profits and leave a legacy for the City of Truro and the supporters of its football club by agreeing to place the playing surface of the new ground at Silver Bow into a Supporters Trust to be formed of long standing Truro City fans and not those tainted by their collusion with the last regime when 'Trustees' handed over the rights of Treyew Road to the formers owners of TCFC and in so doing trigger the traumatic events that followed.

Chelmsford City 1 Truro City 2

The Clarets were their own worst enemies as they lost 2-1 at Melbourne Park to Truro City on Saturday afternoon in the Vanarama National League South.
Young attacker Hugo Skepelhorn got the hosts off to a great start after just five minutes, following up his own saved shot on five minutes to slot home. It was the Clarets' first league goal in three games.

However, from then on in the first half Chelmsford were sloppy in possession. Truro levelled on 21 minutes with a curling free-kick from Jamie Reid. They then took the lead with Ryan Brett sliding a shot between Clarets goalkeeper Christian Dibble's legs eight minutes later.
Although the hosts improved in the second half and Truro skipper Arran Pugh received a red card with minutes to go, they could not find the leveller their play merited.
Chelmsford were welcoming a team in form in Truro, who despite their 12th-place position in the table have not lost a league match since August during which they started the season poorly.
The Clarets needed to get their form back on track, with just the one win in the league in their last five matches.
The two teams have a close bond, with the Clarets attempting to help fund-raising efforts in 2012 after Truro went into administration. While the visitors from 668 miles away ultimately could not raise enough money to remain in the Football Conference, they have bounced back and the two sides have retained their strong relationship.
Saturday brought Mark Hughes' 100th game for the Clarets since joining two years ago. New signings Michael Thalassitis and Ben Marlow, both former Bishop's Stortford players, came straight into the starting XI, with Luke Daley, Bagasan Graham and Harry Morgan all dropping to the bench after last weekend's defeat at Bath City.
The Clarets started brightly. A great header from Rory McAuley cannoned back off the crossbar from a deep Matt Whichelow free-kick, but the assistant had his flag up for offside.
It took just five minutes for the Clarets to open the scoring. Whichelow knocked a ball through to the galloping Skepelhorn. He sped towards goal and while his first effort was parried by Truro goalkeeper Martin Rice, the youngster buried the rebound with a first time shot.
Whichelow was looking bright in the early stages, curling in a low cross from the right which Thalassitis was inches away from getting his toe to in the box.
McCauley then received a yellow card for a late tackle, giving Reid the chance to curl home a delightful free-kick into the left side of the net.
Chances at both ends came on 27 minutes with Craig Duff's header from Connor Riley-Lowe's cross gathered by Dibble before Skepelhorn's sliced cross bounced off the Truro crossbar.
Two minutes later the visitors took the lead when Cody Cooke broke through the middle and played in Brett, who calmly slotted through the goalkeeper's legs.
The hosts were sloppy in possession and one misplaced pass gave Reid the chance to advance and fire off a shot on the turn which Dibble gathered at the second attempt.
Truro went close again just before the break when Arran Pugh headed down a corner to Cooke, who hooked his effort over the crossbar from eight yards.
City had a great chance to level seven minutes into the second half when Marlow broke down the left and sent in a cross which the arriving Skepelhorn headed inches wide of the left post.
On 64 minutes Whichelow sent a low shot at the goalkeeper when Lee Sawyer was free on the left to be played in.
Clarets boss Mark Hawkes decided he had seen enough. He brought on Graham, Daley and Mark Haines for Aiden Palmer, Rob Girdlestone and Sawyer.
City were definitely much better in the second half and Thalassitis sent a low shot towards the bottom right corner which had Rice scrabbling to save.
However, Truro could have made the game safe on 78 minutes, when Cooke was picked out in acres of space in the box, but took an age to strike the ball and when he did it flew well over from seven yards.
The hosts were given added hope on 86 minutes when Pugh saw red for a second yellow card, having received both for late tackles on Skepelhorn. However, they could not find a leveller against the ten men with Hughes going close from three yards out in the final moments.

Truro City 2 v Margate 1

Margate's good away run came to a halt with a 2-1 defeat at Truro City on Saturday afternoon.
Gate had taken seven points from a possible nine in previous three away games in Vanarama National League South but despite a grandstand finish they could not overcome the damage of conceding two goals in eight first-half minutes.

In the third meeting between the sides already this season, Kane Wills did pull back a goal Terry Brown's men probably deserved with 13 minutes remaining, but they could not find the second which would have extended their unbeaten away run.

Terry Brown. Picture Martin Apps

Lewis Taylor (achilles), Jake Goodman (foot), Christian Jolley (ill) and Charlie Allen (suspended) didn't travel to Cornwall while Danny Green and Charlie Wassmer watched the whole game from the bench.

The early pressure all came from City and Gate keeper Nikki Bull got down well to stop a fierce drive from Cody Cooke from 18 yards inside two minutes.

Arran Pugh saw a header blocked from the resulting corner while at the other end Jamie Taylor curled wide of the far post on six minutes and Ryan Moss should have done better than sidefoot tamely at Tom McHale soon after.

There were more heroics from Bull diving to his left to tip out a scrambled Pugh effort from no more than six yards out, with Ollie Knowles lashing the rebound over the bar and towards the monstrous bonfire set to be lit later in the week.

Margate were more than holding their own but the breakthrough game on 23 minutes when the impressive Dan Green broke down the right and pulled back for the unmarked Cooke to side-foot inside the far post with Bull helpless.

The game looked all but up just eight minutes later when Margate's defence went to pieces after another good ball into the box from Green.

After pinball in the area the ball broke to Duff who's initial effort was blocked by Wilson, only for the striker to slide to prod past Bull at the second time of asking.

There were however furious appeals for a Gate penalty after Freddie Ladapo glided into the box after some neat passing from the visitors, however the frontman couldn't get the ball into position to shoot from 12 yards and his tumble under pressure looked just a bit late to convince referee Gary Parsons.

Margate looked the better side after the break but with very little in the way of action in the final third until the dying minutes.

Moss sent a shot straight at McHale after a neat turn and Nathan Green's prodded free-kick from 25 yards on 56 minutes was flapped aside at the second attempt by the keeper, but otherwise the game was played-out in the middle of the park.

At the other end Bull kept Gate hopes alive with a smothering save to deny sub Isaac Vassell who had been played through after some suspect defending while the tireless Ladapo enjoyed no success despite chasing umpteen balls down the channels and to the byline.

Wills gave the visitors hope with 13 minutes remaining when his angled drive from the right of the box found the far top corner, though Vassell jinked through from the restart and only Bull prevented it becoming 3-1.

Gate pressed forward in the closing stages and Wills again tested McHale from distance while Moss saw a 20-yard lob caught under the bar by the keeper but they could not find an equaliser before embarking on their longest return journey of the season.

Truro: McHale, Mitchell, White, Ash (Afful 67mins), Richards, Pugh, Knowles, Green, Duff (Vassell 61mins), Reid, Cooke (73mins Barrow). Subs not used: Wright.

Margate: Bull, Rents, N Green, Hunt, Wilson, Johnson, Wills, Moore, Ladapo, Moss, J Taylor (Taiwo 67mins). Subs not used: Wassmer, D Green, Cash, Stewart.

Truro City 2 Gosport Borough 2

CITY will be disappointed they did not take all three points after twice taking the lead and finishing the much stronger side.
But the draw - City's sixth of the season but their first at home - did extend their unbeaten National League South run to seven games since that 6-0 defeat against Oxford City at the end of August
Fielding an unchanged team, City got off to a flying start taking an eighth minute lead, as Jamie Richards headed home a left wing corner from Aaron Dawson at the far post, with the ball going in off the underside of the bar.

The Hampshire side though looked dangerous going forward, but their equaliser eight minutes later was avoidable, as referee Lee Venamore awarded the visitors a penalty after City full-back Pierce Mitchell pushed Rowan Vine as they went up for a cross which was too high in any case for both of them.
Up stepped top scorer Justin Bennett, who gave Tom McHale no chance with his 18th goal of the season to make it 1-1.
But almost immediately Cty were given a gift goal of their own when Gosport keeper Nathan Ashmore horribly missed his attempted clearance, allowing Jamie Reid the easiest of chances to put the ball into the empty net.
Gosport however, continued to pose problems for the City defence, which lived dangerously at times before finally being breached in stoppage time as Vine made it 2-2 with the help of a deflection which wrongfooted McHale.
City then suffered a blow at the start of the second half with Ryan Brett, who had replaced the injured Jake Ash at half time, suffering a suspected broken nose after a clash of heads with City colleague Arran Pugh. This gave Ollie Knowles the chance to come on for his Truro debut.
Promoted by Bisto
It took a while for City to adjust and Gosport looked the more likely winners for a spell, with Bennett and Brett Poate heading over, while Vine sliced an opening wide.
But as the half wore it was City who took control with Reid hitting the woodwork from a free-kick and Dan Green just wide, with a cross shot.
However, they were unable to find a winner for all their late pressure

Whitehawk 0 Truro City 0

City bounced back from the disappointment of last week's FA Cup exit at Margate, as they turned in a terrific performance at high-flying Brighton-based Whitehawk to earn their fifth away National League South draw of the season.
And City boss Steve Tully was disappointed they had not taken all three points from the Enclosed Ground against the third-placed home side.
"It was a great point but we are disappointed we did not take all three," he said.

"We had four good chances and if we had taken one of those it would have been a different game.
"But it was important we had a reaction after last week and showed it was just a blip. Our players are getting, fitter and better every week and we have to make sure we keep improving."
Tom McHale came in for his first appearance of the season in goal in place of the injured Martin Rice, and had an excellent game, while Jamie Reid returned up front and there was a place on the bench for new signing Ollie Knowles.
The home side, who went into the game unbeaten in 12, had plenty of possession in the first half but City's defence was outstanding with the midfield working hard as did Reid and Duff up front.

After the break Cody Cooke forced out a good save out of Ross in the home goal and then had shot cleared off the line as City threatened a winner.
But in the end it was honours even and City now have two home games in a row as they bid to move into a comfortable mid-table position

Margate 4 Truro City 1

Two goals in the dying moments of the first half put Margate on the way to victory against Truro in the FA Cup third qualifying round.
Trailing to Craig Duff's seventh minute opener for the visitors the Gate were still desperately trying to find a way back when the game turned on its head in first-half stoppage time.

First Freddie Ladapo cut the ball back for Danny Green to equalise and then, in a reversal of roles, the scorer turned provider with the pass that teed-up Ladapo to make it 2-1.

Further goals from substitute Brett Johnson and Jamie Taylor made victory safe but the gloss was taken off the win on 79 minutes when substitute Charlie Allen was sent off, just 90 seconds after coming on, for a bad challenge on Dan Green.

The win was Margate's first in eight games in front of their own fans this season, and ended a run of five straight defeats at Hartsdown.

Manager Terry Brown stuck by the team which was beaten 2-0 at home by Weston the previous weekend which meant there was no place in the starting line-up for Allen, who re-signed on a short term deal last week.

The Truro side meanwhile showed several changes from that drew 1-1 at Hartsdown on the opening day of the Vanarama National League South season.

The most notable absentee was suspended striker Isaac Vassell - cousin of former Aston Villa and England forward Darius - who had terrorised the Gate defence back on  that day back in August. They were also without new signing Jamie Reid whose loan club Exeter City do not want him to be cup-tied.

After all those successive home defeats Gate unsurprisingly began nervously and from the game's first corner, after two minutes, striker Ladapo miskicked towards his own goal.

They fell behind in the eighth minute when Truro midfielder Dan Green burst into the box before picking out Craig Duff who curled a shot beyond Nikki Bull and into the corner.

Gate created their first chance on 14 minutes when Truro keeper Martin Rice smothered from Kane Wills at the far post and soon after Danny Green sent a shot wide.

Luke Moore then had a low centre held by Rice and as the Gate stepped up the tempo, Rice had to punch clear from Ladapo who then rounded the keeper but his shot lacked conviction and was easily cleared.

Truro scorer Duff could have doubled his tally in the 32nd minute but blazed over after Matt Wright's flick had put him in behind the Gate defence.

That miss came back to haunt Truro as the half reached its conclusion, with Danny Green and Ladapo the men who masterminded the Gate's recovery.

First Ladapo cut the ball back for Green to side foot home from eight yards and with the half in stoppage time, Green returned the favour with a  pass that put Ladapo in on goal.
His first attempt was smothered by Rice but he reacted smartly to lob the rebound home.

Truro had an early second half chance when Duff got in at the far post but Charlie Wassmer took the pace off his shot enabling Bull to palm the ball away.

Moore then fired wide for Gate before they increased their lead just after the hour following a handling error by Truro keeper Rice. He failed to deal with a left-wing corner and Johnson was on hand to head home.

As their confidence grew Gate created further chances to extend their advantage with Rice turning aside Moore's fierce low drive before blocking from Ladapo at his near post.

Glenn Wilson also had a header blocked at the far post with central defensive partner Wassmer sending another header over.

Allen entered the fray on 77 minutes but just two minutes later was heading for the changing rooms after a bad lunge on Green.

The Gate though weren't finished and with three minutes remaining made it 4-1 when Ladapo's low cross was turned home at the far post by Taylor.

Margate: Bull, Wilson, Nathan Green, Hunt, Goodman (sub Johnson half-time), Wassmer, Wills, Moore (sub, Tawio 82mins), Ladapo, Danny Green (sub, Allen 77mins), Taylor; Subs (not used): Moss, Jolley, Rents, Cash, Taiwo,

Truro City 3 Havant and Waterlooville 0

City produced one of their best performances of the season to beat the Hampshire visitors and stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches.
Goals from debutant Jamie Reid, centre half Jamie Richards and substitute Isaac Vassell were enough to see off the Hawks, who have now lost four matches in a row.
The win moved City up a place to 13th in the Vanarama National League South table.
The home side showed just one change, with on loan signing Jamie Reid from Exeter City starting in place of Matt Wright who dropped to the bench.
Cody Cooke also returned to take his place on the bench after injury.
Defender Rob Farkins has had to leave the club because of his army commitments and was at the game to say his goodbyes.
City and Reid got off to the perfect start with a goal in the tenth minute, when he latched onto a Conor Riley-Lowe long ball and calmly lobbed Ryan Young in the Havant goal.
But the visitors came back well, with Matt Paterson clipping the top of the bar and James Hayter having a header cleared off the line.
Truro's defence though was very solid as they went into half time still 1-0 up.
At the start of the second half it needed a great save from Martin Rice to deny Patterson before City doubled their advantage with central defender Jamie Richards heading home Ryan Brett's corner after 50 minutes for his first goal for the club.
Havant continued to press, but the home defence was exceptional led by Arran Pugh and Richards.
And they then caught the visitors out, when Vassell lifted the ball over Young to make it 3-0, after running onto a long ball.
It was effectively game over as City saw the game out without too many problems to continue their recent improvement.

Taunton Town 2 Truro City 2

Taunton kept their Cup dream alive, coming from two down to force a replay against higher ranked Truro City in a rip-snorting FA Cup thriller at Wordsworth Drive.
The Conference South Cornishmen flew out of the traps and took the lead after nine minutes with a stunning right foot strike by Craig Duff, the ball whizzing over Lloyd Irish’s head and dipping just under the bar. They were all over the bemused homesters at this point, and almost bagged a second when Ryan Brett clipped a shot against the right-hand post.
The lead was duly doubled just after the quarter hour mark when Brett latched on to a poor clearance from keeper Irish and squared it to Matthew Wright who hooked it home at the far post. The tie may have slipped away from Taunton had they not made an immediate response. But they clawed themselves back into contention when Jordan Rogers wriggled clear down the left, drew Martin Rice, and beat the veteran shot-stopper with a delightful clip into the far corner from a narrowing angle.
From that point on, the Peacocks were the better side. They almost equalised on the half hour when a crisp move released Jamie Price on the right, but the captain drilled his powerful shot wide. The domination continued at the start of the second period with the massed ranks on the terrace at the Town End witnessing at close quarters a bizarre sequence of six home corners in barely as many minutes. From them, Owen Irish came closest to netting, his pile-driving shot somehow being beaten out by the Truro defence.
Taunton ramped up the pressure still further as the half progressed. After 66 minutes, Rogers again breached the Cornish back line, but was denied by a great low save from Rice. A minute later Jamie Short and Owen Irish linked up in a clever passing move down the right, the latter teeing up Craig Veal who spun and smashed a ferocious volley that Rice just tipped over. The keeper finally succumbed from Dale Evans’s resultant corner though, the ball finding its way to Rogers at the far post. He got a hand to the striker’s fine shot, but not enough to keep it out.
Both sides had chances in the final stages, the best falling to Truro’s Isaac Vassell who fired wastefully over. The substitute striker further compounded his ignominy by following through high and late on Lloyd Irish a few minutes later to receive a caution. Then, in injury-time, Vassell impeded Irish taking a kick to pick up his second booking and consequent red card. A somewhat silly and surreal end to an otherwise brilliant cup tie.

Dartford 0 Truro City 1

City clinched their first away National League South win of the season thanks to a late goal from substitute Isaac Vassell.
Vassell was in the right place at the right time at Princes Park in Kent to tuck away a cross from another substitute Les Afful.
And the win, which lifted City two places up the table to 14th, extended their unbeaten run to four matches since that 6-0 Bank Holiday Monday hammering at home to Oxford City.

And City boss Steve Tully was delighted with his side's performance.
He said: "It was our most complete performance of the season. All over the pitch we were good and could have won by more, but Ricey made a great save at the death to ensure we got the points."
With Rob Farkins and Pierce Mitchell unavailable, there was a recall for Jake Ash who had a great game in front of the back four.
That was the only change from the side that drew 2-2 at Weston-super-Mare in the week, though Truro suffered an early blow when Cody Cooke had to go off with a groin problem to be replaced by Ryan Brett who went onto have an excellent match.
After a relatively quiet opening 45 minutes, with City looking comfortable, the visitors started to create more after the break.
Man of the match Matt Wright, who went close in the first half, headed against the bar and had another cleared off the line.
Truro though were not be denied a famous win as they continue to come to terms with life at a higher level after winning promotion last season.

Weston-super-Mare 2 Truro City 2

CITY were denied a second National League South win in four days when Weston scored an equaliser three minutes from time at Winterstoke Park
After falling behind at the start of the second half City to an Ollie Barnes header, the visitors looked to have turned the game round with two quick goals by Arran Pugh and Cody Cooke.
But with time running out, a visibly tiring City side could not see the game out with Scott Wilson firing home a fine equaliser into the top corner of Martin Rice's goal.

It was tough on a Truro side, who gave a debut to new signing Jamie Richards in central defence in place of the suspended Rob Farkins, in the only change from the side that started Saturday's 2-0 home win over St Albans City.
And City boss Steve Tully said: "We just ran out of legs. Of course its disappointing we could not hold out, but I am delighted we kept our run going."

After a pretty uneventful first half, the home side who started the match bottom of the table, took the lead when Barnes headed home from a corner.
Pugh then got City level after 78 minutes, with a good finish from just inside the box following a corner and man of the match Cooke tapped in at the far post two minutes later from substitute Les Afful's cross.
However, City could not hold out and stay 16th in the table with ten points from their opening ten matches.
CITY: Rice; Mitchell, Pugh, Richards, Riley-Lowe; White (Brett); Green, Cooke, Dawson; Wright (Afful 72), Duff (Vassell 64). Subs (not used); Yeoman, Ash.
Yellow cards: Green, Pugh.

Truro City 2 St Albans City 0

Truro City fans went home a lot happier than when they last saw their team in action at Treyew Road after today's National League South win.
Beaten 6-0 at home by Oxford City on Bank Holiday Monday, this was a chance for the home side to help erase the memories of that painful defeat and they were worthy winners against the struggling Hertfordshire side.

It was also a second successive clean sheet for Steve Tully's side after that horrible defeat and the City boss believes his side are starting to come to terms with life at the higher level.
City soon calmed any nerves with an excellent first goal after 12 minutes with left back Connor Riley-Lowe's deft finish as he chipped Joe Welch to finish off a flowing move for his first goal for the club since signing on loan from Exeter City in the summer.
If that goal was sublime then City's second midway through the half had a slice of luck as Matt Wright's shot flashed across the goal from a deflection to the far post where it hit the unknowing Aaron Dawson and rebounded into the net from close range.
It was then a case for City, who gave a debut to 19-year-old new signing, former Bristol Rovers full-back Pierce Mitchell, of seeing the game out against a visiting side lacking any real penetration up front..
The Hertfordshire side had plenty of the ball as City were content to sit back and soak up the pressure, but never tested a confident Martin Rice, who captained the side, in the home goal.
There were a couple of Ade Yusuff headers, while Louie Theophanous shot over, but that was about it as City need a winless run of five home matches with their second victory of the season which lifted them a place up the table to 16th.
Before the game City completed the signing of central defender Jamie Richards from Torquay United and he will make his debut in the place of the suspended Rob Farkins at Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday evening.
TRURO CITY: Rice (capt); Mitchell, Farkins, Pugh, Riley-Lowe, White (Ash 75), Green, Cooke (Afful h-t), Dawson, Wright (Vassell 60), Duff. Subs (unused): Brett, Yeoman.

Hit for Six again, this time off the Pitch - by Peter Masters

Last Friday we received notification that the Department for Communities and Local Government were unable to complete consideration of the planning proposals by 2nd September 2015 and in exercise of his powers under article 31(1) The Town and Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) (England) Order 2015, the Secretary of State directs the Council not to grant permission on the applications without specific authorisation.

This direction was issued to enable the Secretary of State for Communities to have a further period in which to consider the proposals. We as a Club are not aware of any time limits relating to the powers under article 31(1) only that “the matter will be dealt with as quickly as possible”. The decision could take weeks, months or even years and there is no guarantee of a successful outcome. We find this latest setback totally unacceptable and bitterly disappointing.
Both Philip and I feel strongly that we cannot simply standby waiting in the vain hope that someone outside of Cornwall sat in the higher arc of government will understand our position at Truro City Football Club and finally issue the planning permissions that have been passed by local government on 30th July 2015. We need to control our own destiny and success. The Club cannot return to the brink of extinction or get relegated back down to the Southern League or lower through the actions of others with only their self interest in mind.
The position now as we understand it in respect of the planning permissions passed on 30th July 2015 by the Strategic Planning Committee on Treyew Road, Silver Bow, West Langarth and S4C is wide open, nothing is settled and it appears to us that certain individuals are floundering around either trying to better their position and or make political gain, this is simply wrong. The build programme on Silver Bow has already got behind and there is now little chance of getting back on track on what already is a tight schedule.
Given this latest development we will be making our feelings known to the Secretary of State and also resurrecting the ground share option. At least being based in Devon we will be able to concentrate on football matters instead of being distracted in Cornwall by planning issues. The sad thing is that many people, particularly the younger generation will be deprived of National League football here Truro for what we fear will be a very long period of time.

We also fear for our friends, the Cornish Pirates, who face a similar dilemma like Truro City, have had their hopes raised in July and now find themselves again back in the hands of the Planning Authority and all of the bureaucracy surrounding it.
It’s a sad indictment on Cornwall’s Sporting facilities.
Peter Masters, Chairman.

Eastbourne Borough 0 Truro City 0

Truro City bounced back from their 6-0 Bank Holiday Monday home defeat against Oxford City to end a run of three successive National League South defeats with a well deserved draw in East Sussex.
It was a much improved performance by Steve Tully's side and the City boss was delighted with how his players had responded after Monday's debacle.
He said: "We were strong, determined and our work rate and spirit was first class and If I am being a bit greedy we could even have nicked it.

"It was just the response we were looking for. It was a little step forward and we have got to keep improving.
"We now need to bring our away form into our home matches."
Tully made three changes from the team humbled by Oxford City for the game at Priory Lane, with Cody Cooke, Dan Green and the suspended Isaac Vassell coming in for Shane Krac, Ryan Brett and Matt Wright.
The 30-plus City fans who had made the long trip must have wondered what sort of performance they were going to see from their team, but they needn't have worried.
From the start, the visitors were up for the challenge. City's best first half chance fell to Cooke but he could only head straight at the keeper, while Isaac Vassell had penalty claim turn down.
In the second half Rob Farkins headed just over from a corner, but Eastbourne had their moments with Nathaniel Pinney rattling the bar, while the excellent Martin Rice denied Gavin McCallum at point blank range.
In the closing minutes, Eastbourne threw men forward in search of a winner but City held firm for a draw which in the context of the season over was more valuable than just a simple point.
And with Tully hoping two bring in a couple more players this week ahead of Saturday's visit of St Albans City, Tigers will be hoping their favourites can build on this performance.

Truro City 0 v Oxford City 6

Abject Truro City hit for six as they suffer third successive league defeat (by Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)

Ten man Truro City were given a brutal lesson as they slumped to a third successive National League South defeat after being totally outclassed by the impressive visitors.
Trailing 2-0 at half time, they then had defender Rob Farkins sent off and were fortunate to concede only four more goals as Oxford cruised to victory.
The defeat leaves City 17th in the table, just two points off the relegation places.

And after the game, City boss Steve Tully pulled no punches, describing it as his worst day as manager at Treyew Road.
He said: "It's a bad day at the office. The worst game since I taken over as manager. I think we were lucky to finish 6-0 because they were the better team.
"What disappointed me most was that at 3-0 down and down to ten men we gave up, that's the biggest thing that hurt me."
And City fans should expect some coming and goings over the next few days.
Tully said: "There will be movement of players, there are certain players who cannot play this level and we need to get ones who can."
He said both himself and his management team, as well as the players, also needed to look at what they were doing.
City had to endure a chastening first half as they struggled to cope with the movement and pace of the visitors.
It took Oxford only six minutes to take the lead, with Omari Sterling James allowed far too much space in the right hand channel before finding the far corner of Martin Rice's net with a powerful low drive.
And it became 2-0 after 19 minutes when a simple long ball put Bradley Bubb clear and he easily beat a helpless Rice.
City struggled to create chances, with Arran Pugh unable to get a header on Rice free kick and Craig Duff forcing a good save from Laurie Walker their best efforts.
In contrast, an excellent Oxford side posed a constant threat and could easily have had a third before the break.
At half time, Tully brought on Dan Green and Les Afful for Jake Ash and Conor Riley-Low, but any hopes of a revival were soon ended as Farkins saw red five minutes into the half.
Chaisng back after losing the ball Farkins brought down Reece Fleet inside the area and as "last man" had to go.
Substitute Vinny Mukendi converted the spot kick to make it 3-0 and effectively end the game.
Oxford were in total command, as Mukendi struck twice more to complete his hat-trick in a 11 minute spell, with Luke Coluson ending the rout right on time with another penalty, after Shane Krac had brought him down, to end a miserable day for the home club.
It will now be a big test for manager Tully and his players starting with Saturday's trip to ninth-placed Eastbourne Borough, to try and turn the season around and it should make for fascinating viewing.
