Nikki Bull returned to the touchline after serving his two match ban and he watched on for the opening twenty minutes with neither side creating any chances with Alex Osborn and Marcel Barrington running the forward line.
The first half continued to be a game of very few chances with neither goalkeeper forced into making any saves as both defences cancelled out whatever little threat each attack offered.
Margate started the second half looking the much brighter of the two teams and they should have taken the lead in the 49th minute as Brett Johnson blazed a header over the bar from six yards after a wonderful cross from Lewis Taylor.
The Blues were punished for that miss just moments later as they fell behind in the 51st minute as Jamie Richards headed home a powerful header from a ball into the box past Henly.
The home side’s advantage was doubled just minutes later as River Allen turned a low cross past the despairing dive of Henly to send the hosts into a 2-0 lead.
Margate had a mountain to climb from there on and introduced both Jermaine Osei and Kane Rowland in order to try and reduce the deficit, however despite a couple of half chances each they couldn’t muster any real chances as they fell to a defeat that leaves the Blues sitting 18th in the Vanarama National League South table.
Attention now turns to the Blues next fixture as they welcome Oxford City to Hartsdown Park on Saturday 19th November 2016 with kick off at 3pm.
MARGATE: Henly, Sessegnon, Tumwa (Osei 50’), Fitzsimons, B. Johnson, Parry, M. Johnson, Taylor, Barrington (Rowland 60’), Osborn, Phipp (Williams 80’)
Subs Not Used: Kallmeier, Foster
Attendance: 369
