Truro City boss Steve Tully has continued his team building plans for next season, with four more players signing up for the 2014-15 campaign.
Striker and supporters’ player of the year Cody Cooke, players’ player Shane White, Warren Daw (most improved young player of the year) and big defender Arran Pugh have all signed up for next season.
They join midfielder Joe Broad, club captain Jake Ash, striker Ben Watson, keeper Grant Fisher and new team captain Dan Green in next season’s definite squad, while midfielder Neil Slateford and striker Liam Eddy have agreed deals, but are yet to sign.
Four players – Olly Brokenshire, Jordan Copp, keeper Ollie Chenoweth and Jared Sims – have been released, while central defender Paul Kendall is away travelling for six months.
Tully has already spoken to a few targets for next season, as he looks to build a squad capable of mounting a promotion challenge from the Southern League’s premier division.
This season City finished 17th.

Truro City boss Tully planning for promotion challenge next season
Truro City bring the curtain down on their season at home to Burnham on Saturday (3pm), but manager Steve Tully and assistant Wayne Carlisle are already well advanced in their planning to mount a promotion challenge for the next campaign.
The game will be the pair’s tenth in charge and three points against the struggling Buckinghamshire visitors will give them a fourth win in City’s last five Calor League premier division outings.
And after giving the players May off, it will be back to a once a week “training camp” in June before a return to full time training in July, ahead of the start of the new league season on August 9.
Friendlies are starting to be lined-up, with matches against Falmouth Town, Helston, Bath City, Weston-super-Mare and either Torquay United or Plymouth Argyle in the pipeline.
Contract offers have gone out to a number of players, including joint top scorer Liam Eddy, as Tully looks to firm up his squad for a promotion challenge next season.
The City boss said: “Liam is raw but he knows how to make the right runs in the box to score goals and you can’t teach that.
“If we can get him fitter he will score goals. We want him to stay here and he wants to stay.”
He and Carlisle will be holding a meeting with the squad on Tuesday to set out the way ahead over the summer.
Tully is also keen on building better links with local clubs and intends to meet several clubs over the coming weeks.
He said: “We need to build bridges with them, so perhaps we could loan a couple of players to them and we could help each other.”
Tully intends to get together a squad of 15-16, plus three or four trialists, for pre-season.
And he added that he was excited about the challenge ahead.
He said: “This is only the beginning. It is all about building momentum.”
After the game, the end of season awards ceremony takes place in the clubhouse. A
poll for the Supporters' Player of the season will take place at the match and fans are urged to vote.

Weymouth 2 v Truro City 5
Weymouth punished by hungry Tigers
By Dan Rose
WEYMOUTH'S final home game of the season petered out with a whimper, as a weak second-half showing proved the Terras’ downfall against Truro City.
In an encounter that had chances in abundance throughout, it summed up how up and down Jason Matthews’ men can be at present, as Steve Tully’s Tigers ran out winners against Weymouth for the second time in less than two weeks.
With Matthews naming an unchanged team, it didn’t take long for the same group to carry on the momentum they gained at Redditch United on Saturday, as they found the net with just three minutes gone.
A mix-up in the City defence gave Isaac Vassell the opportunity to stride down the left-hand side and square the ball to Stewart Yetton, who couldn’t miss from three yards out to give the hosts the lead.
But that advantage lasted only three minutes as Weymouth were caught out from the first corner of the contest.
After Warren Daw delivered a viscous in-swinger into the six- yard box, defender Paul Kendall was first to react to a knock down and poked home the equaliser.
And before the Terras could regroup from conceding once, the Tigers then took the lead through ex-Dorchester Town man Ben Watson, who gave his markers a torrid afternoon throughout.
Under pressure from Cody Cooke, Matthews couldn’t gather a towering high ball on the edge of his six-yard box, which allowed Watson to comfortably head his team into the lead and cap a frantic opening 10-minute spell.
It was then Cooke’s turn to attempt to grab a goal moments later as he was given space to shoot just wide of a post from 12-yards out.
But with 24 minutes gone, Weymouth responded again, and it was the Vassell and Yetton partnership that paid dividends once more.
After the former was brought down on the counter-attack by Truro’s Jake Ash, which in turn earned him a yellow card, Vassell then picked himself up and moved swiftly down the left once again to receive the ball and slide in Yetton, who snatched his second to make it 2-2.
The Terras’ top marksman then nearly claimed a first-half hat-trick after his left-footed volley on the turn went close.
Minutes later, Steve Colwell set Jake Green free down the right wing, who delivered a pinpoint cross for Vassell to meet the ball at the far post with a powerful header which cleared the crossbar.
In a highly entertaining opening period, attacks from both sides continued and but for a superb reaction stop from Matt-hews, Truro would have gone in with an advantage.
After another ex-Magpie Dan Green rifled a cross in that Michael Walker could not avoid, the Weymouth goalkeeper stuck out his right mitt on pure instinct to stop the ball ricocheting into the net. But with the first chance of the second-half, Matthews’ charges fell behind once more.
Neil Slateford, who bagged the winner when the sides met less than two weeks ago, sauntered his way through the Weymouth defence and found the bottom corner with a precise low strike, which Matthews was helpless to prevent.
And after George Rigg flashed a header over from Jake Green’s centre, the Terras gave themselves a mountain to climb thanks to some more suspect defending from set-pieces.
With the home side unable to clear another Truro delivery into the box, the ball eventually found its way to Kendall who headed into the path of Watson to notch his second strike of the afternoon on 58 minutes.
Weymouth then tried to shuffle things up in the midfield as they swapped Steve Colwell for Adam Kelly, which nearly had an instant impact on proceedings.
On his return from a hamstring injury, Kelly charged on to Michael Walker’s cushion header and hit the ball with power narrowly over.
But as the home side threw men forward in search of a reply, if anything, it was Truro who were more likely to snatch a fifth on the break, and they did just that.
Arran Pugh, another former Dorchester man, waltzed through the home side’s deflated backline and the ball fell loose for replacement Liam Eddy to nudge home a scruffy fifth and sum up the Terras’ miserable second half showing.

Truro City suffer disappointing away defeat after conceding 'soft' goal (Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)
Biggleswade Town 2 Truro City 1
City were unable to make it three Calor League premier division wins in a row after making the long trip to Biggleswade’s Langford Road on Tuesday evening.
But they really should have taken something from the match against The Waders, who themselves have now won three matches on the bounce.
The game began badly for City when they went 1-0 down after nine minutes, with home skipper Craig Daniell converting a left wing cross.
But a superb strike by the impressive Cody Cooke less than two minutes later got City back on level terms and he was then unlucky with a header which hit the post midway through the half.
However, calamity struck at the other end almost immediately when Lee Allinson scored direct from a corner to give the home side what proved to be the winning goal.
In the second half, City pressed hard for an equaliser, creating several good chances but were unable to take any of them, leaving them empty handed from the 600-mile return trip.
Assistant manager Wayne Carlisle said: “It was disappointing not to take anything from the game.
“We had the opportunities and the work ethic was good, but we gave them a soft goal which in the end proved decisive.”
The result leaves City still 17th in the table ahead of their final away game of the season at Weymouth on Easter Monday.
City: Fisher; Parcell, Pugh, Ash, Daw; Afful, Green, White, Slateford; Cooke, Watson. Subs (all used): Eddy, Copp, Tully.

Dan Green's goal gives Truro City second successive victory (West Briton)
Bedford Town 0 Truro City 1
A goal by man of the match and skipper for the day Dan Green, gave City all three points at already relegated Bedford Town, who had won their previous three matches.
It was a well deserved win for the visitors, who assured their Calor League premier division status for next season in midweek.
And it was enough to move them one place up to the table to 16th with three games of the season left to play.
Steve Tully, whose appointment as manager for next season was confirmed after the midweek win against Weymouth, was pleased with the victory.
He said: “It was a workmanlike performance. We created lots of chances and I think they had only one real effort on goal.
“We worked hard and kept a clean sheet, which is pleasing but there is still plenty of work to do.”
The game’s only goal came on the hour when Green fired home from the edge of the area after Cody Cooke’s shot had been blocked.
And the visitors saw the game out to complete a second successive win and will be looking for make it three in a row when they visit Biggleswade Town on Tuesday evening.

New Truro City boss would 'love' return of Yetton to Treyew Road
Steve Tully wants Truro City’s highly accomplished performance in beating Weymouth 2-1 on Tuesday evening, to become the benchmark for his team after being confirmed as the Tigers’ boss for next season by club chairman Pete Masters following the game.
The former Exeter City and Torquay United defender also revealed he will try and tempt City scoring legend Stewart Yetton back to Treyew Road for next season.
Yetts in a new boxing guise! |
Yetton, who scored 226 goals for City in 316 games, gave new club Weymouth the lead against his former team, before Les Afful and Neil Slateford goals earned City the win which ended any lingering fears of relegation.
With the club’s status secure, Mr Masters wasted no time in announcing to me that he saw Tully and his assistant Wayne Carlisle as the men to take the club forward and drive a return to Conference football.
Delighted to be given the job, Tully said of Yetton: “If he was playing for us tonight he would have had ten. He is a goalscorer and everyone knows he loves the club. I would love to have him back.”
Tully has already started planning for next season and with four games left to play said the squad were playing for new contracts.
He added: “They have got to prove to me and Wayne they want to be here next season. They have got to play as if their lives depended on it.
“Tonight was the benchmark of how we want the team to play. It has taken six games, but they are now buying into what we want. As well as some good attacking football, we showed a resilience, which we have not showed too often this season.
“It was a proper team performance. It is what we expect. Saturday (against Chippenham) was well below that. Everyone put in a shift. It was chalk and cheese.”
City are in action at relegated Bedford Town on Saturday and then at Biggleswade on Tuesday. Paul Kendall misses both matches through suspension, but Jake Ash returns.

A terrific turnaround by the Tigers from Saturday! (by Jacob Englefield)
A well deserved win ensures Southern League Premier football next season as Steve Tully is confirmed as manager for 2014-15
Match report from Jacob Englefield
It was a miserable return to Treyew Road for some former players on a wonderful Tuesday evening as Truro City secured safety for next season in the Calor League Southern Premier Division with a 2-1 victory against Weymouth. The Terras handed starts to Stewart Yetton, Isaac Vassell and Adam Kelly with Scott Walker and Barry McConnell on the replacements bench.
Weymouth took the lead early on with a Stewart Yetton goal, Truro managed to get right back into the game but didn't manage to equalize until half way through the half when Les Afful scored a header at the near post. Truro then scored what proved to be the winner towards the end of the 1st half when Neil Slateford managed to get the ball 25 yards out, fooled a couple of Weymouth defenders with his trickery and managed to strike the ball into the right hand side of the goal.
It was a quiet first five minutes of the game with no chances created by either side. However, in the 9th minute it was Weymouth who managed to take the lead and shocked the home fans when Isaac Vassell managed to go down the left hand side, have a shot that hit the woodwork but fell to the prolific striker Stewart Yetton, taking his league tally to 24 for the season.
Truro then managed to create the first real opportunity of the game in the 17th minute of the game when there was some nice passing down the right hand side, Cody Cooke then delivered a ball to the back post where Neil Slateford was waiting, only for the winger to put the ball wide.
City then managed to create another opportunity four minutes later when Cody Cooke played a 1-2 with Dan Green and hit a shot to Jason Matthews right which the Weymouth keeper managed to parry away from the goal.
It was in the 24th minute that Truro managed to get that equalizer they deserved when midfielder Jamie Lowry took a free kick from half way which was hit towards the back post, Aaron Pugh headed the ball towards goal where Les Afful was waiting to hit a diving header low to Matthews right and into the back of the net, much to the delight of the home faithful.
A quiet 15 minute period followed and it wasn't until the 40th minute that Truro scored their 2nd and what ended up being the winner when the ball fell to Neil Slateford 25 yards out. What followed was something special as he managed to produce a little bit of trickery that fooled a couple of Weymouth defenders, putting the ball on his right foot he smashed the ball into the net giving Matthews no chance.
Into the second half, a pleasing one for Truro as they managed to create opportunities, stay solid at the back and never really look like conceding, something that we haven't seen this season.
Weymouth's only chance of the half came in the 57th minute, Isaac Vassell who was busy all the night down his left wing managed to outwit youngster Micky Parcell, hit a cross over to the far post towards Stewart Yetton, and when you thought he was going to score he headed the ball low with little power to Grant Fisher's left, which fell safely into his hands. The only work he really had to do in the second 45 minutes.
Truro had their fair share of chances, some they really should have taken. Ben Watson and Liam Eddy were brought on in attack, and you could see the added influence they both had on the outcome of the game, securing Truro's victory. Both holding the ball up well and adding a lot of extra energy.
The last bit of action came at the end of the game, where Weymouth full back Jake Green was given his marching orders by referee Ian Roberts for apparently foul and abusive language towards.
A couple of minutes later, after Liam Eddy had missed a sitter, Roberts then brought an end to what was an entertaining game of football at Treyew Road.
Truro: Fisher, Parcell, Daw, Kendall, Pugh, White, Green, J Lowry, Afful, Cooke, Slateford
Subs: Watson, Copp, Berrow, Eddy.
Weymouth: Matthews, Sharpe, Green, Coldwell, Hutchings, Richards, Kelly, Jagger-Cane, Yetton, Riggs, Vassell.
Subs: Poole, Ford, S Walker, M Walker, McConnell.

Truro City ensure league survival and Tully confirmed as manager for next season (By Rhod Mitchell)
Truro City 2 Weymouth 1
It was a big night, both on an off the pitch for City, as they earned the win which secured their Calor League premier division status, which was followed by the news that Steve Tully will be in charge at Treyew Road next season.
Chairman Pete Masters confirmed to me after the match that Tully would be continuing as City boss next season after replacing the sacked Steve Massey with ten games of the campaign left.
Tonight’s well deserved win, courtesy of first half goals from Les Afful and Neil Slateford, after former City favourite Stewart Yetton had given the Dorset side an early lead, was only the second under Tully.
But the City chairman has obviously seen enough to give the former Exeter City and Torquay United defender the job permanently, a decision which has delighted Tully and assistant Wayne Carlisle.
And after Saturday’s poor performance in losing to Chippenham Town 3-1 at home, it was a remarkable turnaround.
The game had started disastrously for City as a cross from the left by former City player Isaac Vassell deceived Grant Fisher in the home goal hitting the bar and fell kindly for former City favourite Stewart Yetton the easiest of finishes for his 26th league goal of the season with only eight minutes gone.
But the home side quickly recovered their composure, producing some fine attacking football.
And they deservedly equalised after 23 minutes when a deep Jamie Lowry free kick was headed back by Arran Pugh for Les Afful to score with a stooping header at the near post.
City continued to push forward and deservedly took the lead just before half time with a rasping left footed Neil Slateford drive into the roof of the net.
And in the second half, City should really have added further goals as they continued to take the game to a Weymouth side who were second best for much of the half.
City squandered several great chances to make the game safe and were indebted to keeper Grant Fisher for a couple of smart saves to deny Yetton, to ensure a priceless three points.
The visitors ended the match with ten men after Jake Green was sent off late on apparently for comments made to the assistant, but by then they were a beaten side.
The win, coupled with AFC Totton losing 3-0 at home to Redditch Utd, meant City are safe from the drop.
And with more performances like this City fans will dream of being much higher up the table next season.

City turn in one of their worst performances of the season (by Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)
Truro City 1 Chippenham Town 3
City turned in one of their worst performances of the season to lose to a Chippenham side who finished the match with nine men.
It was a third successive Calor League premier division defeat for a City side still not mathematically safe from the threat of relegation.
Chippenham needed the points themselves to boost their hopes of survival and produced a muscular performance which was too much for the home side who never really got going.
And City boss Steve Tully admitted his side had been out muscled by the visitors.
"We started poorly and it continued," he said.
"We struggled from start to finish."
"The chairman is disappointed, we are all disappointed, but if you are going to build a team you have to do it with the right people.
"You learn more about players when things are not going so well."
He will now be looking for a reaction at home to Weymouth on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).
In the end the visitors’ physical approach cost them red cards for Lee Phillips and Bryan Smith for off the ball incidents, but they went home with the points, leaving City a well beaten side.
Manager Steve Tully named an unchanged side but was forced to make a late change when Warren Daw was injured in the warm-up, with Olly Brokenshire coming in from the bench.
But Brokenshire lasted just 16 minutes when his hamstring problem flared up again, with Ben Watson taking his place.
It was the visitors, who came into the game on the back of four straight defeats, who started the better but it was Truro took the lead against the run of play.
A long ball forward by Shane White found skipper Paul Kendall in space on the left of the area and he volleyed home for his fifth goal of the season.
However, City could not keep their lead for more than two minutes as they allowed Alan Griffin to cross from the right for Phillips to score at the near post.
Truro were glad to get into half time on level terms, but within ten minutes of the restart found themselves 3-1 down.
First, Harley Purnell’s through ball gave Corey King a free run on goal as he finished with aplomb and then the tall Griffin out jumped Grant Fisher to head home a James Guthrie free-kick.
Even when Phillips saw red minutes for an off the ball incident involving Paul Kendall, City could not take advantage. City's skipper later had to go to hospital for stitches.
The closest the home side came to getting back into the match was when Dan Green was denied by Kent Kauppinen’s fine point blanks save.
But in the main, Chippenham saw the game out relatively easily, with Smith’s late red card, for another off the ball clash, coming too late to matter.
City: Fisher; Parcell, Kendall (capt) (Copp 69), Pugh, White; Lowry, Green, Brokenshire (Watson 16), Slateford (Eddy 67); Cooke, Afful.

Yellow cards: King, Purnell.
Reds cards: Phillips (60), Smith (88).

Truro City go down to defeat after surrendering early lead (by Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)
Truro City 1 Hungerford Town 2
City were unable to build on an early goal as they suffered their ninth home Calor League premier defeat of the season at a chilly Treyew Road.
Shane White’s second goal of the season after only seven minutes had given City the perfect start against a Hungerford team chasing a sixth straight win.
But an own goal by keeper Grant Fisher just before half time got the Berkshire side back on level terms and Stefan Brown scored the winner with 16 minutes left when he ran on to score, with City appealing in vain for offside.
It was tough on the home side, who produced some of their best football for some time, but again ended up with nothing to show for their efforts.
Tigers boss Steve Tully made three changes for the game from the side that started the 4-1 defeat at Cambridge City with Jamie Lowry, Arran Pugh and Neil Slateford all starting, in place of Jordan Copp, Joe Broad (injured) and Monty Berrow.
Truro began the game well and quickly went ahead when Afful’s cross from the left fell kindly for White to scored from close range.
And the home side went on to have the better of much of the half, but were unable to find a crucial second goal.
But they looked to be going into half time still ahead until an error by Fisher saw him fumble a James Clark corner into his own net.
In the second period, with the wind in their favour, the visitors began strongly with Fisher saving from Alan O’Brien.
At the other end Afful was brought down in full flight on the edge of the area by Matt Day, with City’s claims for a penalty waved away by referee Steve Annis, who instead booked the defender and awarded a free kick right on the edge of the box.
City soon fell behind when Brown looked well offside as he ran onto a flick and rounded Fisher before finding the empty net.
And despite a frantic spell of late pressure the home team were unable to find what would have been a deserved equaliser.
They are next in action at home to Chippenham Town on Saturday
TRURO CITY: Fisher; Parcell, Kendall (capt), Pugh, Daw (Copp 69), Lowry, Green, White, Slateford (Watson 60), Afful (Ash 82), Cooke. Subs (not used): Berrow, Eddy.
Yellow cards: Parcell, Pugh.
HUNGERFORD TOWN: Strudley, Hughes, Stanley, Morgan, Day, Rees (Webb 65), Clark (Goodger 73), Brewer, Brown, Draycott, O’Brien (Hopper 73). Subs (not used): Legg, Stow.
Yellow cards: Day, Draycott.
Goals: White (7) 1-0, Fisher (41 og) 1-1, Brown (74) 1-2.
Crowd: 212.
Referee: Steve Annis (Penzance).
