New images from the Banbury away game April 2011

Below are some new images from the away game at Banbury in April. They follow the order of the day, from the lunchtime pub, the match and of course the fantastic celebrations confirming promotion to Blue Square South.  The final image shows the pride and joy of the event.

John Pope

We have today learnt of the sudden passing of John Pope who had been associated with the Club and the Supporters Club for a number of years. John was the Club's groundsman for a number of years before taking on the role of Treasurer to the Supporters' Club.

Well known throughout Cornwall, not just for his sporting prowess but also as the Mayor of his beloved Camborne. He had represented the Town on Cornwall County Council and the former Kerrier District Council. John was a well respected Member of the community, known for his plain speaking and wicked sense of humour.

On the sporting scene, after retiring from playing football, John took up the whistle and was to become one of the leading Referees in the County, officiating at a number of County Finals, along with matches in the various FA Competitions.  After retiring from refereeing, John became a valued Member of Cornwall County Football Association. One of John's proudest moments in football was when he witnessed his son, Ross, take to the field at the New Wembley during Truro City's famous FA Vase victory. John's other sporting love was cricket and he was groundsman at Camborne Cricket Club for a number of years. 

A true gentleman who will be sadly missed but forever remembered.

Pre-season friendlies 2011

Wednesday 27th July 2011 - Home Park

A pre-season West Country friendly has been organised for the above date at Home Park, or the so-called "Theatre of Greens". Normally, this fixture is played at Treyew Road but the prospect of visiting Home Park is very exciting and is sure to catch the imagination of Truro Fans.  Well done Ian Rennie for setting this up.

Proposed Blue Square South league 2011/12

The FA has drawn up their proposal for the Blue Square South league next season.  The proposal will be voted on and confirmed at the FA Conference AGM in June.

The link for the team line-ups is below.  From a Truro Fans viewpoint, there are about six "easy" away ties which are achievable; our derby game is Weston-Super-Mare and is only a 320 mile round trip followed by next closest Dorchester.  Thereafter, Basingstoke, Maidenhead, Farnborough and Staines look do-able.  Some Truro Fans are also looking forward to Dartford and Dover, but not on a Tuesday night in January !  Looking at opposing team websites, some are still pondering about the trip to Treyew Road.

Lee Hodges agrees to stay with Truro City

Truro City chairman Kevin Heaney has confirmed that Lee Hodges has verbally agreed a new two-year contract to stay with Truro City.

The former Torquay player has tranformed Truro from a mid-table team in the Premier Division to champions in just over eighteen months and is rapidly making a name for himself in the management business.

It will have no doubt attracted the attentions of clubs higher up than Truro in non-League football, but Kevin Heaney is confident that Lee will stay at City and achieve further success.

"Lee has proved a great manager, he said: "Sometimes in life people take to a role like a hand into a glove, and he has impressed as an absolute natural for it. His players would walk through walls for him. Lee is easily the best manager I have worked with. There is a calmness about him, but he also has a steeliness which ensures that the players fully respect him and know exactly where they stand with him, which is vitally important."

"He is a genuinely outstanding young manager and I firmly believe he is the man who can take us into the Football League. He has verbally agreed a new two-year contract with Truro City and as far as I am aware all the squad have also indicated that they want to stay. The squad for next season will be entirely a matter for Lee, but I don’t think there’s any doubt that we certainly have the nucleus of a squad that will be more than capable of holding its own at the next level."
