Falmouth Town 3 Truro City 2
Despite fielding a strong line-up for the opening 45 minutes, Blue Square Bet South newcomers Truro City conceded three first half goals, eventually going on to lose 3-2 in the Aubrey Wilkes Trophy on Tuesday evening.
It was the first outing of the season for both teams and they provided an entertaining encounter before a good crowd at Bickland Park
City second team player Sean Johnston did his hopes of first team football little harm when he gave City a 26th minute lead driving the ball home following a goalmouth scramble.
City's lead though was shortlived as new Falmouth signing, former Conference South striker Ian Hodges, beat the offside trap to turn home Craig Duff's cross in the 29th minute.
It got worse for the visitors seven minutes before the break when Hodges let fly with a superb volley from Dan Green's searching crossfield ball, giving City keeper Martin Rice no chance as it flew into the bottom corner.
Barry McConnell missed the chance to equalise from the penalty spot after being bundled over in the box by defender Sam Chitty, another new Falmouth signing.
And right on half-time City Falmouth went 3-1 up when Matt Drummond fired the ball into the roof of the net from Craig Duff's header across goal.
With a number of niggling fouls in the second half, chances were scarce but Dan Smith lit up an otherwise drab 45 minutes when he pulled a goal back in the 75th minute smashing the ball into the net from 25 yards out.
But it was too little, too late as Falmouth held firm to earn a famous win.
