CIRENCESTER Town recorded a vital win against fellow play-off contenders Truro City at the Corinium Stadium. After missing the defeat to Weymouth due to injury, Ed Williams was restored to the starting XI and fellow youngster Jacob Davidge was included in place of sidelined Nat Jarvis. In what was a cagey start to affairs, the home team had the best of only a handful of early opportunities as striker Davidge was foiled by Kyle Moore after he met a deep cross. City’s focal point of attack Les Afful almost capitalised on Glyn Garner’s indecisiveness before the veteran goalie managed to gather the ball safely. Truro’s particularly enthusiastic travelling contingent were momentarily silenced as Davidge latched on to a neat through ball to calmly finish beyond Moore. The visitors almost equalised on the half-hour. The lively Afful was instrumental in Truro’s best chance of the half, playing the ball to Danny Green, who skied over. The second 45 minutes produced a livelier restart as Williams sent a volley inches past the post. Davidge netted his second goal of the game with just over 20 minutes to play as substitute Ben Wells played a delicious pass behind the defence for the striker to place into the left hand corner. Truro could have found a lifeline soon after but Cody Cook failed to convert from the penalty spot. Even the introduction of former Premier League veteran and Cheltenham Town striker Barry Hayles could not affect the outcome in what proved a frustrating afternoon for the men in white, whilst Cirencester could rejoice as they moved just four points behind their visitors in seventh. Next Saturday the Centurions face another rival in St Neots Town, where they will be hoping to continue this fine form for a crucial period in the season.
