A goal on his home debut by new City signing Danny Sullivan gave the White Tigers a vital win against one of their big rivals for promotion from the Evo-Stik Southern premier division.
On a chilly night at Treyew Road, Sullivan, who had come on as a substitute for Craig Duff, pounced after 67 minutes as he fired high into the roof of the net to give his new team a lead they would never relinquish.
The win moved City level on points with the visitors, though Steve Tully’s men remain fifth in the table due to their inferior goal difference.
For the second time in four days City, had to come from behind to claim the three points, after Redditch had taken the lead in the 18th minute with George Carline heading home a corner.
But ten minutes later they were back on level terms when the outstanding Danny Greenslade scored his first goal for the club, with a cross shot from the left into the far corner.
Four minutes later the home side went 2-1 up in rather fortunate style when Ron Farkins's long range effort was deflected into the path of top scorer Craig Duff ten yards out and he made no mistake firing into the bottom corner.
And that was how it stayed until half time and City were perhaps a shade lucky to be ahead at the break.
However, it took the visitors just eight minutes of the second half to level, when the spin on a speculative effort by Leigh Phillips somehow defeated City keeper Charlie Burns as it bounced almost apologetically into the net.
It was now a test of City’s character and they dug in to to regain the lead through Sullivan, but wasted chances to make the match safe and Redditch were well in the game until the final whistle.
But the home side held on as they started a run of four home matches in style.
They are next in action against struggling Dorchester Town on Saturday (3pm).
