JAMIE White’s spectacular injury time winner racked up a vital three points for Salisbury City and left their Cornish rivals devastated in a gripping finale at the Ray Mac.

Darrell Clarke’s side were frustratingly foiled until the 90th minute, when White dramatically netted the winner from the tightest of angles.

A brace from Chris McPhee put the Old Sarum team in a dominant position, but the Tinmen halved the deficit just seconds before the interval through Barry Hayles. Kieffer Moore added insult to injury by planting home the equaliser in the 46th minute. Theo Lewis restored the hosts’ advantage inside 65 minutes, but two minutes later, Martin Watts ruined the temporary celebrations, by making it 3-3.

But White’s thunderous strike, created huge cheers inside the fortress and put the leaders up to 52 points.

A Frosty, chilly and icy Tuesday evening may have tampered with Salisbury’s plans to brush aside rock-bottom Truro. But within seven minutes, a swift pass from Udoji into the path of McPhee, was whacked into the net in style.

White went close moments later, but his left-footed effort was blocked by Luke McCormick.

And as a second looked predictable, it came just before the half-hour mark through inform McPhee, who sealed his eighth league goal of the season. Becoming notorious for good deliveries, Elliott Frear assisted the second, which was pounded home at a far post by McPhee. Lee Hodges’ ten man squad posed little danger in the first-half, and the closest they came to even remotely bringing Mark Scott into action, was Watts’ shot which was struck well, but drifted over the bar.

Two goal hero McPhee nearly setup a third before the break, but his rapid delivery flew over his teammates’ head.

Then McPhee nearly got his first hat-trick for the club which he is so desperate to get, as Frear’s delivery clipped the 29-year-old’s ankle, and nearly smuggled into the corner.

But Salisbury’s comprehensive display was not matched with the 2-0 lead they deserved. A self-destructive error from Scott allowed Hayles to swoop and scoop one back for the Tinmen. And Truro entered the second-period as they ended the first, silencing the home fans. Sluggish defending let the Whites’ lead slip away, with Moore cleaning up on Callum Hart’s stumble and fired home the leveller.

Frear had a couple of plausible efforts on goal, and so did Ryan Brett, but both failed to get beneath McCormick.

But a thunderous volley from Lewis, got City’s lead back in the 65th minute, but it was cancelled out two minutes later. Watts, on the spin, punished City’s woeful attempt to clear the danger and made it 3-3.

But Truro, who looked to have earned a valuable point away from Treyew Road, failed to deal with a brisk counter-attack from the hosts, which consequently scuppered that chance.

Terrific vision from Brett, played a fantastic through ball into White, who from an acute angle, took it round McCormick and smashed into the bottom corner. Darrell Clarke’s reaction encapsulated huge relief around the Ray Mac.
