City Alerts - Tonbridge review and Dover update - by Mike Truscott
TEAM NEWS for tomorrow's match at home to DOVER ATHLETIC, kick-off 7 pm.
No fresh injuries. "One or two knocks" from Saturday, but nothing to worry about. MARTIN WATTS returns to squad after several reserve team run-outs, including full 90 minutes on Saturday.
Lee: "I've spoken to him since then and he feels good, so it's time to bring him back and that will be a big boost for everyone. He's a quality player and he's been a long time out (with his knee injury sustained at Salisbury in February last year) and it will be really great for everyone to see him back."
TODD HANRAHAN will not be included. "He was due to play for his club Ivybridge on Friday night but went over with his ankle in the warm-up and lasted five minutes in the match." Squad: Luke McCormick, Calron Hall, Jake Ash, Lee Hodges, Ben Williams, Joe Broad, Marcus Martin, Cody Cooke, Les Afful, Andy Watkins, Kieffer Moore, Bobby Hopkinson, Danny Carne, Martin Watts.
More from Lee on TOMORROW'S MATCH: "I've spoken to Tracey (club secretary) this morning and she says the pitch is a bit wet, a bit heavy, but she can't see any problems and the weather forecast is nothing too bad. So it looks as if the fixture will not be at risk. It's a big, big match for us. Dover are currently third in the table and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they've gone the whole calendar year so far unbeaten away from home in the League, so that shows the scale of the challenge facing us. It's more than ever vital that we get a good crowd and a very vocal one right behind the boys, which can make such a big difference."
Lee on CITY 2 TONBRIDGE ANGELS 0: "I just felt that again we battled ever so hard and played so well in all departments. In defence, midfield and attack, we looked very strong. We defended properly as a team. We kept their top striker under control and I don't think we allowed him a single chance. Our midfield were very competitive. The two wide boys worked up and down and the two boys in the middle got forward and back and got in the tackles. Up front, Watto and Kieffer caused problems and Kieffer came up with a bit of magic at the end to seal it. Until you get that second goal, you do start wondering in the closing stages after creating so many chances but not going further ahead, but this time the boys got what they deserved."
GATES. Special plea to "bring a friend" with you . . . more than ever, it's "bums on seats" time. As per my personal message on TigerTalk this morning: "Whatever the time of year and other distractions, be in no doubt that we should be VERY concerned if gates don't pick up again, substantially and soon. It may sound unrealistic, but if we don't hit at least 500 against Dover then I think we're all going to have to work that little bit harder at reminding ourselves just where we still are."
NEXT FIXTURES (all League): Sat, Dec 8, away to Boreham Wood, 3 pm; Sat, Dec 15, home to Maidenhead United, 3 pm; Sat, Dec 22, away to Salisbury 3 pm; Wed, Dec 26, home to Dorchester; Sat, Dec 29, home to Weston-Super-Mare, 3 pm; Tues, Jan 1, away to Dorchester, 3 pm.
Mike you are so right now is the time to show your support.
