CITY edged closer to Blue Square Bet South safety with this crucial point at struggling Staines Town which kept them seven points clear of the relegation zone.

It was a game they dare not really lose against the Middlesex side at Wheatsheaf Park, though the pressure was more on the home team with games running out.

City boss Lee Hodges recalled the well again Steve Adams in defence with skipper Jake Ash moving back to midfield with Joe Broad dropping to the bench.

It was the home side who made the early running and Andre Scarlett should have put them ahead but shot wide after being put clean through.

Both teams also had penalty appeals turned down.

However, but just before half City scored a priceless goal with Stewart Yetton netting his sixth of the season a minute before the break with a good finish inside the near from eight yards after Barry Hayles had flicked the ball on.

The home side though drew level after 65 minutes when midfielder David Wheeler headed home from close range.

City had a couple of strong penalties rejected, while Mark Nwokeji wasted the best chance for Staines.

In the end it was surely a good point for City, who take on another struggling side in Havant and Waterlooville at Treyew Road on Easter Saturday when three points will effectively be enough to secure their place in the league for next season.
