Callum O’Dowda continued his impressive form by scoring as a youthful Oxford United XI drew 1-1 at Truro City in their final pre-season game on Monday night.
He netted in the first half of a game which the U’s played as part of the deal which took goalkeeper Luke McCormick from the Cornish club to the Kassam Stadium in January.
O’Dowda opened the scoring on 40 minutes when Josh Ruffels’s free-kick from the edge of the box was parried into the winger’s path.
But United were pegged back on 57 minutes when Truro’s Cody Cooke fired home from 20 yards past the helpless Max Crocombe.
The Kiwi keeper made a superb save soon after to keep it at 1-1, but otherwise the back four of Matt Bevans, Kenzer Lee, Marvin Ekpiteta and David Lynn looked solid in front of him.
Josh Shama made his return from injury in midfield alongside Josh Ashby and Ruffels.
Trialist Dylan McGlade was given a chance, while Tyrone Marsh and O’Dowda were lively up front.
United might have nicked it right at the end when substitute Aiden Hawtin was denied by a great save.
Oxford Utd XI:
Crocombe, Bevans, Lynn, Ashby, Ekpiteta, Lee, McGlade, Ruffels, Marsh, Shama (Roberts 75), O’Dowda (Hawtin 67). Subs not used: Martin, George, Kavanagh.

Truro City skipper faces race against time to be fit for the start of new season (by Rhod Mitchell West Briton)
Truro City skipper Jake Ash is hopeful of being ready for the start of the new season after suffering a metatarsal injury in last night’s 1-1 draw against Oxford United.
Ash hobbled off late in the game after being caught by a challenge from Oxford’s Josh Ashby.
And after a visit last night to A & E, he said today that he had suffered a broken metatarsal, but only a “slight” one.
“I reckon I will be OK for the start of the new season but it will be a bit of a case of suck it and see.”

Ash injury mars promising night for Truro City (by Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)
Truro City 1 Oxford Utd 1
City continued their preparations for the start of the new season with another encouraging performance against the youthful League 2 visitors.
Cody Cooke’s powerful drive after 57 minutes earned City a deserved draw, in what was their final home pre-season friendly before opening their Calor League premier division campaign at home to Bedford Town on Saturday August 17.
And the only real downside of the night at Treyew Road was the sight of talismanic skipper Jake Ash limping off late in the game, after being caught by a challenge from Oxford’s Josh Ashby.
City boss Steve Massey had ten subs on the bench and all but reserve keeper Luke Payne were given a run out as he looks to trim down his squad.
The home side made a bright start before Oxford came back well and took the lead five minutes before half time.
City keeper Ollie Chenoweth could only parry a free-kick from Josh Ruffels into the path of Callum O’Dowda and he made no mistake, tucking away the loose ball.
But after the break City soon equalised with a Cooke’s powerful strike from outside the area seemingly taking a slight deflection on its way past Max Crocombe in the Oxford goal.
Substitute Neil Slateford was then denied by a superb save from the Oxford keeper, while at the other end Chenoweth blocked Josh Sharma’s close range effort.
In the final minutes both sides could have grabbed a winner with Dave Trott heading a free-kick from fellow substitute Jed Harper-Penman against the post and then Chenoweth producing a top quality save to turn away Aidan Hawtin’s low strike in stoppage time.
In the end a draw was a fair result and City are next in action at Launceston on Tuesday August 6.
City: Chenoweth, White (Bradley 77), D Evans, Ash (capt) (Trott 80), Swain (Fraser 87), Afful (Harper-Penman 67), Cooke (H Evans 77), Andrew (Slateford h-t), Copp (Broad 67), Coombes (Vickers 85), Broomfield (Sims h-t).
Referee: Andy Bennett (Okehampton).

Truro City chairman unhappy at lack of season ticket sales (by Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)
Truro City chairman Peter Masters says he is disappointed with the lack of season ticket sales ahead of the start of the club's new season in the Calor League premier division on Saturday August 17 when they entertain Bedford Town.
He said today that only 58 season tickets had been sold, made up of 17 adults, 40 concessions and one junior and warned that if this was a sign of likely attendances it did not bode well for the club which only came out of administration in the summer.
He said today that only 58 season tickets had been sold, made up of 17 adults, 40 concessions and one junior and warned that if this was a sign of likely attendances it did not bode well for the club which only came out of administration in the summer.
He said: “If we use this as an indicator for the new season’s home attendance this would give me cause for concern as there would be little or no hope of having a sustainable club with that level of support in the Southern Premier and beyond without Philip and I digging deep into our pockets again.
Truro City Football Club to demonstrate their support by buying a season ticket now at this very competitive offer?.”
The cost of season tickets are: Adult (17-59 years) £150; Concession (60 years +) £100 and Juniors (12-16 years) £50.
Tickets are available from Steve Rogers on 01872 263444 until July 31 and applies to 23 home league games, but exclude cup games.
The season ticket also allows free entry to City’s next friendly against Oxford United on Monday (7.30pm). In addition, all season ticket holders will receive a free white polo shirt with the new badge on it.

Helston duo Goldsworthy and Young choose Blues over Truro City (Falmouth Packet)
After weeks of uncertainty Helston striker Mark Goldsworthy and midfielder Charlie Young have pledged their futures to the Blues.
The pair turned out for Truro City in recent friendly matches, but speaking to the Packet Goldsworthy said he felt the move to Treyew Road had come at the wrong time, and that his career would be better served by spending more time playing first team football with Helston.
“Obviously being a young lad I get frustrated when I’m not playing, and although I didn’t expect to be playing every week in the Southern League I got the feeling that I was going to be a bit-part player, and I think I’d be pulling my hair out if that was the case,” the 22 year-old said.
“I want to improve, and I think another season at Helston with 90 minutes under my belt every week can only make me better.”
Goldsworthy was at pains to point out that his decision had nothing to do with his treatment at Treyew Road, or his relationship with Truro manager Steve Massey.
“I won’t say anything bad about Truro,” he said, “I got on well with [Steve] Massey, and my decision is nothing against Truro City because the training there was unbelievable, and my experiences against Crewe and Plymouth were amazing, but at this stage I don’t want to be tied into a contract I can’t get out of, then not play very many minutes over the season.”
Taylor said: “Charlie went over there and trained with them and had a look at the club, but he felt he didn’t get the same chances as other players. He felt there was a lack of communication. He felt he got the least action out of any midfielder and he’s very disappointed.
“But he said he wanted to come back and stamp his authority on midfield and maybe add some goals to his game, and we’re delighted to have him back.”
Meanwhile Liam Eddy’s future at Helston is in doubt, with the striker poised for crunch contract talks with Truro tonight (Weds).
“I would say we’ve probably lost Liam,” said Taylor. “But I’m delighted all three of them have had an opportunity up there. We’re ever so proud, but it shouldn’t have dragged on for this long.
There should have been communication from Massey right from the beginning, but the way they’ve done things, considering they’re the premier club in Cornwall, has been very underhand.”

New manager for Truro City second team (by Rhod Mitchell West Briton)
In a surprise move, former Hayle boss Anthony Reynolds is to take over from Gary Pascoe as manager of Truro City's reserve team with immediate effect.
Reynolds quit Hayle a few weeks ago, citing work commitments and subsequently the Trevassack Park club pulled out of Carlsberg SWPL Division One West.
But now he has accepted City manager Steve Massey's invitation to return to the game as manager of the club's second team in place of Pascoe.
Massey said: "Gary has done a magnificent job and last season held the team together making sure we put a team out every week in difficult circumstances.
"I want us to be in the premier division as soon as possible and challenging the top teams there."

Youngsters held - Official Argyle match report (from Official PAFC site)
Truro City 1 Argyle 1
THE Argyle Development XI starting line-up for their game against Calor League Premier Division Truro City at Treyew Road on Wednesday showed six changes from the all-apprentice and schoolboy squad that had held Callington Town to a draw two days earlier.
In came young professionals Ben Purrington, Jamie Richards, Isaac Vassell, Matt Lecointe and Tyler Harvey – plus apprentice Ryan Lane. All bar Purrington had been involved in the first-team friendly against Bath City at Twerton Park the previous evening and maybe the reason that the Pilgrims looked slightly jaded was because of their efforts just 24 hours earlier and the fact they had not returned from Somerset until the early hours that morning.
Argyle’s cause was further hampered after only 25 minutes when former England Youth international Lecointe had to limp off with what looked like a bad knee injury.
Seb Broomfield and co-striker Liam Eddy netted inside the opening half-hour only to have their efforts disallowed for offside.
The nearest the Greens came to scoring in the first half was an angled shot from close range by apprentice winger Solomon Wheatley that former Pilgrim Ollie Chenoweth turned away for a corner.
Both teams fielded a number of substitutes in the second half and, just as the contest looked likely to meander to a goal-less stalemate, Argyle struck.
The Pilgrims were awarded a penalty for a handball offence in a crowded goalmouth melee and Harvey despatched the spot-kick, with clinical efficiency, into the bottom corner of Chenoweth’s goal.
Truro brought on former Argyle youngster Jake Vickers in a triple substitution, and the latter had the final say on the result three minutes into added time. Referee Adam Bromley adjudged that Purrington tripped Vickers inside the box and the tall striker converted the penalty himself to ensure the hosts gained a deserved share of the spoils.
Late penalty earns Truro City draw against Argyle youngsters (by Rhod Mitchell West Briton)

A stoppage time penalty, won and converted by substitute Jake Vickers, earned City a well deserved draw against a very youthful Argyle line-up at Treyew Road on Wednesday evening in their second pre-season friendly.
The visitors had looked to have snatched victory on a glorious evening when Tyler Harvey dispatched an 83rd minute penalty, after Plymouth referee Adam Bromley had spotted a City handball following a goalmouth melee.
But that would have been tough on City and the sub with no number on his back, Vickers ( who was formerly at Argyle), then wriggled his way into the box before being felled and he got up to put away the spot kick with aplomb, to ensure honours ended even.
It was another promising display by City’s new-look side, who were wearing for the first time their new “traditional” red and black away strip, as they prepare for life in the Calor League premier division, with their first game at home to Bedford Town on August 17.
The home side had suffered a double pre-match blow when skipper Jake Ash and young former Plymouth Argyle striker Jared Sims had to go home because of illness.
But they shrugged off the disruption and began brightly, with the lively Liam Eddy twice finding the net, only two have his efforts ruled out, first for offside and then a foul in the build up. He was also denied by a fine save form Andrew Hannah in the Argyle goal.
Plymouth also suffered a setback of their own when the highly-rated Matt Lacointe had to hobble off after colliding with former Argyle team-mate Ollie Chenoweth who went on to make a good save to keep out a Harvey strike.
In the second half both sides made changes, which rather disrupted the flow of the match though both teams had chances, with Truro substitute Charlie Young shooting into the side netting from a Neil Slateford cross and Harvey missing the target when well placed.
But the game looked like ending goalless, until those two late penalties gave a good sized crowd of 576 an exciting finale to what had been an entertaining match.
CITY: Chenoweth; White, Evans, Kendall, Daw, Afful, Cooke, Copp, Andrew, Eddy, Broomfield. Subs (all used): Goldsworthy Young, Swain, Slateford, Bradley, Fraser, Vickers.
ARGYLE X1: Hannah; Summers, Perrington, Allen, Sargent, Richards, Vassell, Lane, Lacointe, Harvey, Wheatley. Subs: Moxham, Start, Hutchinson, Asumadu-Sakyi, McHale, Rooney.

City Alerts - An overview of 2013/14 Fixtures by Ian Rennie
2013-14 FIXTURES
The eagerly-awaited fixtures for the new season have been issued this morning and give us an interesting Home game v Bedford Town on 17 August to start the season. Interestingly our first time into the Southern League Premier Division in 2009-10 also started with a game against Bedford Town although that time it was away at The Eyrie and gave us our first win 2-0 in that division with Les Afful making his debut for the club.
The Bedford Town game is followed by two away games at Bashley and Hinckley United in the first week of the season and gives our new team and supporters a taste of the travelling in the season of about 11500 miles for the away League fixtures. Bank Holiday Monday 26 August brings us a home derby against our nearest neighbours Bideford which should be a bumper day. We have the return fixture at Bideford on Boxing Day and will welcome Weymouth to Treyew Road on New Year’s Day with a chance to meet up again with a few of our old friends in Danny Clay, Scottie Walker, Barry McConnell and Stewart Yetton. We will make the return trip to Weymouth in the penultimate game of the Season on Easter Monday.
Although we will be making re-acquaintance with a good few old friends from our previous time in this League, we are also meeting quite a few clubs for the first time in League games- Hinckley United, St Neots Town, Poole Town, St Albans City, Biggleswade Town, Hungerford Town, Redditch United, Corby Town, and Arlesey Town. We also have the chance to go to see old friends AFC Totton who many of you will know have a new home at Testwood Stadium since we last played them. Plenty of interesting excursions for our intrepid travelling fans in the coming months!
The release of fixtures each year produces a buzz and brings the new season very much closer to everybody so bring it on and let’s show them with bumper crowds at Treyew Road giving the boys loads of support.

Pre match message from the Chairman
Chairman’s Pre match Comments
Truro City FC vs Plymouth Argyle X1 Kick Off 7:45pm
Tonight we welcome our League neighbours Plymouth Argyle to Treyew Road, soon to be known as Fortress Treyew Road when the season proper gets underway as we need to win every Home game if we have any chance of fulfilling our ambition to get back in the Conference South.
Since our last match against Crewe Alexandra it’s been busy busy busy both on and of the Pitch. We have gained valuable experience from our first Match under Steve Massey and we know Steve and his support team are very pleased how the Players are progressing and equally we can say matters are going well off the Pitch. Both Philip and I agree that Treyew Road has a more positive feel about it and for once we both look forward to the match day.
At this point we would like to remind all our loyal supporters to invest in the 2013/14 by buying a season ticket as previously stated all income received from the sale of the season tickets will be going directly towards meeting the Players wage budget.
Back to this evening and in particular our new look team. We play in our new RED/BLACK away colours, those who attended the first meeting under our involvement back in October 2012 will remember that we promised the change and tonight we have delivered up on that promise.
Turning to the Players Wow! What a wealth of talent it would be hard to argue that we witnessed something a bit special in the first half against Crewe followed by a further impressive display in the second Steve now has the enviable task of selecting his playing eleven.
That said let us not forget it is a friendly match for the purpose of experimentation and preparation for the season so let us all give a warm welcome to our visitors and show them the respect they deserve and we remind all that Plymouth Argyle offered the hand of friendship in Truro City’s hour of need in recent times. Enjoy the night and a safe journey home.

The Stage is Set - Truro City vs Argyle Xl Wed 17th July 7.45pm KO
It will be City's second pre-season outing after their promising performance in losing 2-1 to Crewe Alexandra and new manager Steve Massey is looking forward to the game.
"It should be a good run out for us and I intend giving the players such longer game time," he said.
Against Crewe Massey fielded two completely different teams in each half.
City trained at Marjons in Plymouth last night and Massey said: "Many people have spoken to me since the Crewe game and said about how well we performed.
"Yes we did, and it's always nice to hear compliments about the way we played and players’ performances.”
"However, with every young gathering of some of the best football talent in the region, there comes a warning that it will need time to settle into playing at Southern League level.
"This is a very young and inexperienced team at this level and will require time to bond and grow together as a team and individually.
"This is where you [the supporters] play your part. We will have a team here once again winning promotions and trophies.
"That is our aim. The youngsters are going to need all the support, encouragement and backing you can give, but believe me between us we will reach our goal.
"Keep the faith, keep the belief and remember, it's not all about winning, it’s all about wanting to win.”
City will know their fixtures tomorrow (Wed 17th July) when the Southern League release the list of games.
The new league season starts on August 17.

Truro boss hits back at criticism from rivals (This is Cornwall - 11th July)
Source This is Cornwall
TRURO City boss Steve Massey has denied claims by rival managers he has been discourteous to them as he tries to assemble a squad good enough to compete in the Southern League’s premier division in the new season.
Massey and his management team have given a large number of players from Cornish clubs the chance to see if they can make it at a higher level.
But it is an approach that has upset managers such as Helston’s Sid Taylor and St Austell’s Dan Nancarrow, who have both complained that they had not been informed by Massey that he was interested in their players.
But the City boss said he had done nothing wrong.
“I don’t want to fall out with anyone but I think they are being naive. They should be encouraging their players to give it a go with us and not having a go at me and the club.”
The Helston trio of Liam Eddy, Mark Goldsworthy and Charlie Young all featured in City’s opening friendly against Crewe on Friday, as did St Austell left-back Martin Giles.
But the Lillywhites defender has now turned his back on City and will stay at Poltair Park because he said he wants to play at a more local level.
It is a decision that has disappointed Massey. “I have wished him the best for the future but am disappointed at his decision,” he said.
“I think the travelling issue is a myth and just a weak excuse but has had huge pressure put on him.”
Another potential player departing is former Torquay United midfielder Saul Halpin who played against Crewe, but has now joined Bideford saying he did not think he would get enough game time for City.

St Austell boss anger at Truro City manager Massey
Source: This is Cornwall LINK
MARTIN Giles has assured St Austell player-manager Dan Nancarrow that he is '100 per-cent' committed to the club, despite playing in a friendly for Truro City on Friday.
The left-back has had a couple of training sessions with City, which Giles insists has been only to keep up his fitness.
However, after only learning on the internet that Giles played in City's pre-season run out against League One Crewe Alexandra, Nancarrow has hit out at Truro boss Steve Massey's handling of the situation.
He said: "All it needed was a quick text from Steve Massey to tell me Martin was playing in the friendly, but I had nothing, which is very disappointing.
"I only saw that he was in the squad online, which is a bit of a joke really.
"But I've spoken to Martin he has assured me that he is 100 per cent committed to playing for St Austell next season."
Giles was outstanding for the Lillywhites last season and he made a good impression on Friday against Football League opposition.
Also involved against Crewe were former St Austell duo Olly Brokenshire and Neil Slateford.
Brokenshire signed for City at the end of last month, while former Bodmin team-mate Slateford has also been training with the club.

New-look Truro City acquit themselves well against Crewe (by Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)
Truro City 1 Crewe Alexandra 2
A new chapter in the recent turbulent history of Truro City, got off to a promising start at a sun-kissed Treyew Road on Friday evening.
Fielding a completely different team in each half, City, under new manager Steve Massey, produced plenty of positive signs against the League 1 visitors who have been training in Truro this week.
And a well taken late goal from Liam Eddy, following a pinpoint pass from Helston team-mate Charlie Young, ensured some tangible reward for their efforts in front of an appreciative crowd of around 500.
Massey has had a hectic summer trying to assemble a squad of “young and hungry” players capable of competing in the Southern League’s premier division, and this was the first chance to see them in action on the pitch, after just two training sessions, with City’s first league game not until August 17.
And Massey, who is in his third spell in charge at Treyew Road, said he was delighted with what he had seen.
“Individually I thought we did superb. Overall it was really good. The guys did really well, even with the changes we had to make in the second half because of injuries.
“It is a first step and I hope the majority of supporters can see what we are trying to do with the young boys. There will be some natural wastage along the way but this was a good start.”
In the first half in particular, City looked slick and surprisingly cohesive, despite the lack of training together.
There was some neat interplay, though goal scoring chances were scarce against a strong Crewe line-up.
And it was the League side who took the lead in stoppage time with a neat finish from Ajay Leitch-Smith who soon added a second at the start of the second half.
City competed well despite injuries to trialist Ed Weeks and Ben Williams.
They came closest to a goal midway through the half when Les Afful thundered a drive against the bar.
However, five minutes from time they did manage a well deserved goal with Young’s defence-splitting pass giving Eddy the chance to finish well.
In the dying minutes City though were indebted to a great goal line clearance by Calron Hall from Byron Moore and the woodwork also denied the visitors’ a third.
That would have been harsh on City whose next friendly is against Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday July 17.
City (first half): Chenoweth; White, Ash, Evans, Giles, Andrew, Brokenshire, Daw, Copp, Sims, Broomfield.
City (second half): Payne, Hall, Williams (Goldsworthy 57), Halpin (Young 78), Kendall, Weeks Bradley (65), Swain, Cooke, Eddy, Afful, Slateford.
Referee: Adam Hopkins (Plymouth).

Some images from the Crewe game; With 28 players present last night, and all getting a run-out in the first or second half, many of the faces were unknown to me (and most of the fans!). The first half was played in the new white strip and the second half in last year's blue away strip. It was a pity we couldn't have played in the new red and black strip but that is promised for the Argyle game on Wed 17th. The PM has tweeted this morning " a big thank you to all for making last night a success".

Some images of the evening: On a balmy summer's evening, just under 500 spectators saw a very pleasing game of friendly football. A Crewe streaker was an unusual sight and is presumably something normally done in the north?
